What's the best Chinese restaurant in the New River Valley?

lindsey-02-small

A ranking of the nation's top Chinese restaurants didn't list any in Southwest Virginia. So that leads food writer Lindsey Nair to ask her readers: What do you think is the best Chinese restaurant around?
You can join the conversation on her Fridge Magnet food blog -- or start a separate thread here by leaving comments below.

So far, one reader really likes the China Inn across from the Blacksburg library.

  1. The best place in Radford is Panda on Rt. 11 in the Kroger shopping center. The service is fast and friendly and the food is always good. I used to really like the Mongolian Grill in Radford, but since they changed ownership, the food, service, and cleanliness has really gone downhill! The buffet place in the Wal-Mart shopping center is not good, service is bad, and it's not very clean, Canton in Radford is just ok and Lin's House in Radford is not much better.

  2. Charlie's in downtown Christiansburg is the best by far! The Kung Pao Chicken and Chicken with Garlic Sauce are amazing! Plus they have the best Hot and Sour Soup and Eggrolls. The service is terrific and they are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

  4. Their vegetarian selection looks good even though I've never tried it. They are very nice and I'm sure if you wanted something else off the menu to be made without meat they could do it.

  5. I thought Charlie's was overpriced and bland. I'm a vegetarian, and I agree the best food I've had around here was from Panda Restaurant in Radford. But since I live in Christiansburg, we usually get food from China Garden. My favorite thing is sesame tofu, which isn't on the menu, but they make it if you ask. My husband likes the General Tso's chicken (not sure if that's how it's spelled) with fried rice.

  6. I find making my own Chinese food alot better than what one could buy around here. Then, we tried Beijing Buffet in Blacksburg and its not bad for cheap Chinese food. Best bet is to travel to a city for some good Chinese food. I miss Dim Sum!

  7. I've eaten at several of the restaurants in the NRV, but certainly not all. I like the Hunan House in Christiansburg for their buffet, it's one of the best ones I've eaten at, though it may just be personal preference. The only buffet I have liked better is the East Garden restaurant in Charlottesville at Pantops. For a la carte dining, I like Canton in Radford. I've also had food from Panda, and they're pretty good too, along with China Inn in Blacksburg(didn't care for it), and a few others that I didn't think were worth remembering the names of.
