Four hospitalized with CO exposure
Four Christiansburg residents were taken to the hospital Monday morning after falling ill to carbon monoxide exposure.
The Christiansburg Police Department, along with fire and rescue squads, were called to the 500 block of Oak Tree Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m., and found four males seated on the ground outside, according to a press release from the police department.
Officials found a carbon-monoxide build-up caused by a vehicle left running inside the garage at 570 Oak Tree Boulevard. The townhome units on both sides, 560 and 580 Oak Tree Boulevard, also registered high carbon monoxide levels.
William David Akers, 32, of 570 Oak Tree Boulevard, was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital for carbon monoxide exposure. Three residents from 580 Oak Tree Boulevard -- Derek Kiss, 31, Russ Fox, 26, and Chris Bryson, 31, were also transported for exposure. All of the victims were conscious and alert, according to the release.
Fire department officials opened all three residences for ventilation and remained on scene until carbon monoxide readings returned to normal.
