Deeds will campaign in Radford and Blacksburg on Saturday

Creigh Deeds, the Democratic candidate for governor, will make appearances in Radford and Blacksburg on Saturday.

When we get word about any campaign appearances in the New River Valley by Bob McDonnell, the Republican candidate, we'll share them here, as well.

Deeds' schedule is below:

1 PM IN RADFORD - LUNCH WITH SUPPORTERS. Sen. Deeds will join U.S. Senator Mark Warner, Rep. Rick Boucher (D-9th District) for a lunch with supporters at a house in Radford.

3 PM IN BLACKSBURG - GET OUT THE VOTE EVENT WITH SENATOR MARK WARNER. Sen. Deeds will join U.S. Senator Mark Warner and Sen. John Edwards (D-Roanoke) for a get out the vote campaign event in Blacksburg. Sen. Deeds and Sen. Warner will speak to voters and supporters about the importance of getting out the vote on November 3.

Giles wins state golf tournament; Radford golfer takes individual title

The Giles golf team won the state Group A golf tournament today while Zeke Shaffer of Radford won the individual title. We have details on our Pressbox sports blog.

Radford police report four rapes, 11 burglaries

We've just updated Radford's searchable crime database with the most recent offenses. In all, Radford police reported 162 offenses from Sept. 20 to Oct. 17.

Among them were four rapes, 11 burglaries -- and lots of drunkeness and liquor law violations.

You can see a map of where the incidents took place - or you can search the database yourself, by date, by location or by offense.

The Radford crime database is part of our Datasphere site of searchable data. Among other things you can find: School-by-school results on the annual No Child Left Behind tests.

Radford ghost tour Oct. 30

Ever wondered what ghosties and ghoulies lurk in Radford?

On Oct. 30, a bus tour will showcase the most chilling parts of Radford starting at 8 p.m.

The tour is for ages 13 and up only.

A small amount of walking is included, so please dress appropriately. Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Tickets must be purchased in advance for $5 each at the Visitor’s Center at the Glencoe Museum, 600 Unruh Dr. Call 267-3153 or visit Radford's web site for details. Seating is limited.
