Al Bedrosian waging write-in campaign for RoCo's Hollins District

Conservative commentator and one-time House of Delegates candidate Al Bedrosian is waging a write-in campaign to challenge incumbent Hollins District Supervisor Richard Flora, a Republican, in Roanoke County.

Tuesday afternoon, Bedrosian's daughter handed out flyers touting her father's candidacy outside the Botetourt Springs precinct at the Life Church on Deer Branch Road.

"It's time for a TRUE conservative," the flyer read. It cited what it said was the high tax burden for county residents and construction of a $50 million "gym" with waterslides built without voter approval.

On the back, it had instructions for how to write-in Bedrosian's name on the ballot. On the ballot running against Flora is Democrat Charlene Waybright.

In 1999, Bedrosian unsuccessfully challenged long-time Delegate Dick Cranwell, a Vinton Democrat, in the 14th district.  Running on a strong family values platform, Bedrosian caused a stir during the campaign when he spanked another parent's child in a hospital waiting room. A judged dismissed an assault charge against him.

He later went on to host a conservative talk radio show. He continues to be a conservative activist, endorsing political candidates and contributing newspaper commentaries.

  3. Where you been Al? Could you explain to the public what you have done to involve yourself in county government for the past.....let's say two years? Ever been to a Board of Supervisors meeting during that time? Did you attend any of the public hearings on the "gym" as you call it? Where did you get the $50m price tag from? Can you verify this cost? There were multiple work sessions open to the public to discuss this issue. How many did you attend? Are you on any Roanoke County volunteer boards or commissions? Do your kids attend Roanoke County schools? Did you just wake up this morning and realize that you had all of the answers? Do you think you're smarter than the rest of us Al? I've heard of "Johnny come lately's" before but you take the case Al. Reminds me of another Al.........as in Sharpton.
