Busy Election Day at Cave Spring High School

Election Day has been busier than expected at Cave Spring High School, in Roanoke County's Cave Spring precinct.

Brian Frazier, the precinct's chief voting officer, said the location has seen a 17 percent turnout as of 11 a.m. today -- more than 300 voters.

"We weren't expecting that much this early," he said. Frazier estimated about 10 to 15 people had lined up at the door to the voting area before 6 a.m., when polls opened in Virginia this morning, and reported a steady stream of voters for the first half-hour of voting.

He said he expects voting to remain steady all day, with the usual uptick around 5:30 until polls close at 7 p.m. For voters assigned to Cave Spring High School, Frazier suggested voting between noon and 4 p.m. for a  quick voting experience.

Another point to note for Cave Spring High School voters: The voting area at the school has been moved from its gym to its cafeteria, which requires the use of a different parking lot than last year.
