Hokies lead WKU 10-3

Mark Berman here in Blacksburg, where there will be no shutout at Lane Stadium. Virginia Tech leads Western Kentucky 10-3 early in the second quarter.

The Hokies had first-and-goal from the WK 8 in their first drive, but two penalties and a sack pushed them back. They settled for a 27-yard Dustin Keys field goal for a 3-0 lead.

Tyrod Taylor found Greg Boone in the end zone for a 27-yard TD pass to extend the lead to 10-0 late in the first quarter.

The Hokies were fooled by a fake punt. It looked like the pass would go for a TD, but an illegal block in the back nullified the TD. WKU still kept the ball but instead moved up to the VT 29 instead of scoring, and the drive fizzled. A 48-yard FG cut the lead to 10-3.
