Monica Wright is a perfect example of how great a career an in-state blue chip player can have by going to play for Debbie Ryan. When a player leaves Virginia and goes to an out-of-state school, it can be like falling off of the map.
Even if you go to a national power, only the most knowledgeable women's basketball fans will know what's going on with your career. You can easily be followed by fans throughout the state by going to play for a state university like UVa or VA Tech.
Plus, the Washington Post covers UVa sports, just like it covers the University of Maryland's major teams. And the Washington Post is read around the world!
