FINAL: Turner Ashby 57, Hidden Valley 45
Kirby Burkholder scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as Turner Ashby advanced to Saturday's state final with a 57-45 victory over Hidden Valley at VCU's Siegel Center.
Turner Ashby (27-1) will face Loudoun County for the title at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Hidden Valley (17-12) turned a 34-24 deficit in the third quarter into a 36-24 lead with a 12-0 run, but the Knights went back up 38-36 on a stickback and two free throws by by Burkholder.
Kayla Osborne scored 14 points and Jordan McDonald added 10 to lead Hidden Valley, which won the Group AA championship in 2007 and 2008.
Hidden Valley's players were informed after the game of the death of their head coach Brenda King, who passed away late Tuesday night.
King was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October and never coached a game at Hidden Valley. Assistant coach Randy Bush served as the Titans' interim coach along with assistants Bobby Beecher and Lindy Stetson.

These girls have no reason to hang their heads. They came together as a team through some difficult times and they are winners no matter what.
