FINAL: William Fleming 65, John Marshall 62

VHSL BASKETBALL SEMIFINALS

GROUP AAA BOYS

FINAL: William Fleming continued its quest for a Group AAA championship Wednesday as Troy Daniels scored 21 points to lead the Colonels to a 65-62 victory over John Marshall at VCU's Siegel Center.

Fleming (25-4) trailed by 11 points in the first half and was behind 42-37 when 6-foot-7 center Jamelle Hagins picked up his fourth foul with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

The Colonels rallied behind the play of the other four starters -- Daniels, Shaquan Manning, Eric Thomas and Stephon Anderson -- to take a 54-46 lead with 5:41 to play. The Colonels led 65-59 with 30.8 seconds to play before Randall Ward hit a 3-pointer.

Fleming turned the ball over with 4.3 seconds left but Tahir Little missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded.

The Colonels, who won the 2007 Group AA championship, will play either Petersburg or King's Fork in Friday's championship at 8:45 p.m.

  1. Is Virginia going to find a scholarship to give to Troy Daniels, Class of 2009?

  2. I hope Virginia keeps it's scholarship, Daniels doesn't want to go from an elite high school program to a bottom dweller UVA program. He'd be better off playing for Hollins. GO HOKIES

  4. William Fleming also has Jamelle Hagins! Virginia could work out something if they're interested, and vice versa. Maybe a prep school? Is this going to be another NIT year for Virginia Tech? Tech doesn't have the best program even in southwest Virginia. That honor belongs to Radford, Ryan Beoitnott! LOL!

  5. LOL,
You Hokies never cease to amaze me. Didn't UVA Beat Tech once this year...? Doesn't mean much (just saying). UVA isn't Duke or UNC....but it is a O.K. school academically (I think most Hokies would agree to that). As a William Fleming and UVA grad, I would love to see Daniels end up at Virginia and get a good education (he's not exactly a NBA talent). Hell.....I'll be just as proud to see him go to any other ACC school (Tech included). Expect him to go to a Big East school.

I just don't understand why Hagins doesn't have more offers......?

  6. I think all off William Flemings players are great players. But no one has taken a beating and continued to be on top of his game, the way Eric Thomas has. I know a little about basketball to know. Who ever gives this kid a scholarship will not be disappointed. I hope the news channels and the Roanoke Times do a better job of reporting than you have in the past and are doing now. Give them their just due they deserve it.
