RICHMOND -- Nicole Mitchell scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as George Mason denied Floyd County a second straight Group A Division 2 title Saturday with a 53-46 victory at VCU's Siegel Center.
The title was the second for George Mason (24-6), which won the Group A title in 1998.
Floyd County (26-4) was in a state final for the third year in a row. Guard Brittany Avancini led the Buffaloes in scoring with 19 points but was just 5 of 19 from the field. The Buffaloes forced 23 turnovers but were outrebounded 43-28 and shot just 30.2 percent.
