Navarro back for 2nd half
Shortstop Yamaico Navarro, who spent just one game with Salem before hitting the disabled list, is back with the Red Sox for the second half of the season, the Red Sox announced Thursday.
Also added to the roster before Thursday’s second-half opener were catcher Tim Federowicz, outfielder David Mailman and first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
Navarro was rated the ninth best prospect in the Boston Red Sox organization before the season. But had surgery on the hamate bone in his left wrist and has been recovering and rehabbing in extended spring training all spring.
Federowicz was leading the South Atlantic League in hitting (.345), and had 10 homers and 34 RBIs.
Mailman was hitting .297 with 13 doubles, seven triples, three homers and 32 RBIs for the Greenville Drive, which won the SALLY league’s Southern Division first-half title. Rizzo hit .298 with 21 doubles, nine homers and a team-high 42 RBIs.
Making room on the Salem roster, Daniel Nava was placed on the disabled list and Jon Hee, Jered Stanley and Ty Weeden were sent down to Greenville.
