Salem to play Lynchburg
Lynchburg beat Wilmington 5-2 on Sunday to win the Northern Division championship and reach the Carolina League's championship series. The Hillcats will host Salem in the opening game of the Mills Cup series Monday at 7:05 p.m. at City Stadium.

Speaking of Wilmington, do you remember the UVa player Willie Davis from Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina? A friend of mine who saw Willid Davis play for Laney High told me that this guy could have played in the NFL one day. Early in his career at UVa he was involved in a play where him and an opposing player made a full-speed, head-on hit that knocked both players backward. Willie Davis was lucky not to be seriously injured on that play and it was his last play ever as a college football player. He realized how lucky he was, gave up the game, and went on with his life.
