The bailout flames out
The House rejected Treasury Secretary Paulson's approach, even with caveats. It's time to look for a new way to ease this looming crisis.

On the hunt for a solution
Hunting with Hounds offers a compromise proposal that will satisfy few.

  1. These stupid "price gouging" laws are a bunch of liberal feel good junk! In a free market, when supply is lower than demand, prices rise to discourage use of whatever the commodity. When supply is higher than demand, the price falls to encourage more use of the commodity. If I have 3 sheets of plywood and 10 buyers, I raise the price to whatever the most diligent buyer will pay to keep the less diligent buyer from buying it. If I have 10 sheets of plywood and one buyer, I lower the price to encourage the single buyer to take as many as possible. In the former example, if the diligent buyer will pay $30 per sheet and the others are only willing to pay $10, who should get the plywood? Seems too simple to me.
