Filtering the voice of the people
This is just too precious. The Hill reports that the House is limiting e-mail from the public because it fears overload from millions of Americans who are giving Congress a piece of their minds.
People, it's time to remember snail mail. Take pen to paper. Overload the mailroom.
Or, better yet, wait and deliver the final message Nov. 4.

Further effort to circumvent listening to voters and taking responsibility:
This from Huffington Post:
"DES MOINES, Iowa — Republican presidential nominee John McCain is urging the Treasury Department to intervene aggressively to limit damage from the financial meltdown, action that McCain says President Bush can take with the stroke of a pen.
Opening a business round-table Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa, McCain said he has urged the Treasury to use its exchange stabilization fund "as creatively as possible" to backstop the market crisis. He says officials also should use the authority granted in a housing bill to purchase up to a trillion dollars in mortgages.
McCain decried the defeat of the financial bailout measure in the House, and he warned that the nation's political leaders will have to take risks even though solutions to the crisis may be unpopular."
Apparently, while McCain claims that the nation's political leaders will have to take risks - he doesn't put himself in that category.

Not to bring up bad memories for the sake of it, but didn’t you guys have to shut down this board because of an overwhelming response once? Are you guys being hypocritical or is it just memory loss?
Note: apologies for any grammatical errors.

Say how did Obama feel about that bailout plan?
...or has he told anyone yet?
Comment by Marked Man — September 30, 2008 @ 3:13 pm
I'm confused. I thought the voters were against the bailout 4-to-1. If that's the case, then the House GOP did the voters' will.
So then it must be the Democrats who are getting all the angry calls and email and who are "circumventing listening to voters and taking responsibility". Isn't that right?
You people are having a hard time keeping your stories straight.
By the way, has anyone heard the Manchild's solution? Is anyone asking?

Josh,
The democratic voters arnt screaming because they are the ones that will benefit from this bailout. College students dont pay taxes, if so very little, must dems are minority or low class which pays no taxes and get all the benefits. The repubs need to call there rep. to defeat this again or it will be wallets like yours and mine that will be empty. Why cant anyone see that Barack is a modern day Robin Hood. He is going to take from the haves and give to the have nots, lazy, illegals and so forth.
If this happens everyone will lose. Businesses will not hire and then the Dems get what they want, people depending on govt.

Herb,
I was just pointing out the spin by Luanne and the left that no matter what, it's the Republicans' fault.
First they blamed Bush for "enriching his corporate buddies" with the bailout which the American people opposed. Now they blame the GOP for scuttling the bailout, saying the American people are angry at them.
Which is it?

Josh,
The spin is all in your head. We supported the bailout, reluctantly, and never blamed Bush for "enriching his corporate buddies" with it.
And Luanne's post doesn't mention party at all. In fact, since the House is controlled by the Democrats, any implied criticism would be of them.

So Dan, are you saying Luanne is imploring voters to punish Democrats on election day for "filtering the voice of the people"?
Cool. LOL.

Josh, I think I can speak for myself.
Did I say punish all incumbents, Republicans and Democrats alike?
Sure, didn't. I said deliver a message. Couldn't that also be, Hey, Rep. Incumbent, I support you?
Comment by luanne t — October 1, 2008 @ 10:12 am
LOL. Sure, Luanne. You meant since Congress is limiting emails from people "giving them a piece of their minds" people should write them and say "I support you". LOL.
You guys are going to get dizzy spinning your remarks. Why don't you just admit you're trying to have it both ways and blame Republicans no matter what?
BTW, did you advise Dan you could speak for yourself, since he's the one who spoke for you first?
