The view of Southwest Virginia from New York
The New Yorker has a lengthy story about Barack Obama’s campaign in Southwest Virginia. It features interviews with David (Mudcat) Saunders and Sen. Jim Webb assessing whether Obama can win votes in the hilly part of the commonwealth.

Old news. LA Times did virtually the same story.

A link would have been helpful, Josh.
Sure, other publications have been taking a look at SW Virginia. We even mentioned a different story from the Denver publication a while back. That doesn't make the latest one any less interesting or valid. Unless you just don't care what the national media are saying about our little slice of the nation.

It could be worse, the national media could be reporting about how wonderful it is that we have gay marriage here and hairy guys are loving on one another. And i sure am glad we wont have to worry about reading that crap any time soon.
Let the large liberal loving cities report what they want about here. Its funny though, when they get too old to make it on their own and the noise of the city gets too loud for them, they move in droves to this area.

Let's be honest, sunbelt migration is changing voting patterns in rural America. It's a perverse scene to say the least when the steadfast conservative areas are over-run by individuals who were unable to survive in the area that they came from. I would say that their liberal ideas have resulted in some of the most corrupt and heavily taxed regions in the country, and now they migrate for "the sunshine".
If SW VA votes for Obama, then it is because of migration and votes that were paid for through farm subsidies and other socialized perks that appeal to this segment. The NYT, what a nutjob of newspaper.
