Dress down politically when you go to the polls
Virginia's State Board of Elections just wants to have a calm, smoothly run election in this heated presidential election year. But, we will argue in an unscheduled editorial, it goes too far in saying that poll workers should act as fashion police and bar voters from even passive expressions of support for a candidate, such as wearing a McCain cap or an Obama T-shirt.

I can understand the ban for poll workers, elections officials, and anyone actually involved inside the polling places...but for voters too? That does seem to go pretty far beyond anything that seems reasonable. I don't see how someone wearing a hat or shirt could have any impact on the election, especially considering that there is likely to be a bunch of fairly rabid precinct volunteers outside most polling places this year anyway.

Wow, I've never been a party to an ACLU suit before, so I think I'll just put on my McCain hat and my Obama T-shirt and dare them to stop me.

The law is the law...no political party/personal literature clothing baseballbats etc etc in the polling place or within what 40 feet of the entrance? why tinker with it as you're just inviting hard feelings.
