The Round Table

Uncle Ted says it's so

Maybe too much moose meat is bad for the brain. Alaska politicians sure seem unable to recognize when they've been busted.

First there was Gov. Sarah Palin who insisted that an inspector's report exonerated her from wrongdoing in Troopergate. In fact it concluded she had violated state ethics law.

Now there's Sen. Ted Stevens who insists he hasn't been convicted of anything. The jury that found him guilty of seven counts of lying on financial disclosure statements (*cough* accepting graft *cough*) might disagree.

Uncle Ted says that because he's appealing, he hasn't been convicted yet. Tell that to the guy on death row.

  1. It's either that or something in the water.

  2. "lying on financial disclosure statements "

Everyone lies on federal disclosure forms. Let's move on.

  3. Of course, until Sarah Palin became John McCain's running mate nobody cared about anything that was going on in Alaska.

Oh, that Ted. I thought you were talking about Chappaquiddick Ted.

  5. No. That Ted actually HASN'T been convicted of anything.

  6. Chappaquiddick Ted is as guilty as hell but got let off because of his family's influence. Who are we kidding?

  7. The birth certificate story is taking a very strange turn. No wonder Obama is hiding that info.

Good news is that he is 100% legal on running for President.

  8. As opposed to Uncle Ted, who was actually convicted, Josh?

And, Henry, WHAT are you going on about now? Is it really that hard for people to provide links to whatever it is they may be talking about?

  9. Stevens may not be a boy scout, but he certainly didn't let a girl drown to death to protect a political career.

  10. Seriously Josh and Henry, I fully understand why you cannot defend John McCain's campaign or GWB, and obviously you cannot bring yourself to acknowledge anything good about Obama, but IS THERE NO DEAD HORSE YOU WILL NOT BEAT? Over 90% of this country believes we are on the wrong track. Are they all liberal pigs like me, or can you concede that there might be a reason we are reaching for someone who can walk and talk and think like a real leader. Better news is that Virginia and Maryland are going back to paper ballots, regardless of this turnout, better days are ahead.

  13. Josh #12: Did you have a relevant point there? Who said she was convicted of anything except being a consummate politician?

    Comment by Sandi Saunders — November 1, 2008 @ 3:41 pm

  14. Sandi,

The country is off track in some ways, but most of that isn't the fault of George Bush. I don't know where you get that connnection. The financial mess was originated and perpetuated by Democrats. Down the line. We need a change, all right. We need to kick out the Democrats who refused to allow Fannie Mae reform, as well as the Democrats who received the most in contributions from Fannie.

The only complaint we have with Bush is he went along with a couple of expensive social programs, and he appointed a liberal guy who created the bailout plan which he went along with. Other than that, he did an outstanding job in every way. He appointed excellent judges and justices, he defended life at every turn, he stimulated the economy, (The DOW was setting records even last year), and above all, he kept this country safe from terror attacks by taking the fight to the enemy.

Obama is a disaster in every way. He's a socialist, he is the farthest left senator, he's anti-life, he's an appeaser who has no clue about foreign affairs, he can't run a meeting, he can't speak or think on his feet, he has no accomplishments in the private sector, his work as community organizer was a disaster, and he's done nothing in the senate. His history is littered with radical associations, and he won't reveal anything about his academic time; his grades or his thesis. He has no one to vouch for his character or his accomplishments from his earlier professional career. He has altered positions on most issues, and he lied about how his campaign would be financed. He's most radical, least qualified candidate ever, and the MSM has thrown away all fairness to get him elected.

  15. #11 I wonder what Duberstein's problem is. There has to be a problem, right? No rational republican would ever endorse Obama.

  16. Josh, it must be exhausting being you. Has there ever been a right-wing story you did not swallow? (or repeat, repeat, repeat) So let me dumb this down: America was full of brilliant, insightful, patriotic, real Americans when they (fell for fear) and voted for Bush-Cheney and they will be ignorant, short-sighted, unpatriotic, anti-American rubes if they vote for Obama-Biden?

  17. Sandi, it must be exhausting being you. Has there ever been a leftwing story you or Dan didn't swallow (or repeat, repeat, repeat)?

Yes, brilliant insigntful Americans voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004, and ignorant short-sighted unpatriotic anti American rubes voted for Gore and Kerry. If Obama wins, it's for two reasons; ACORN recruited more homeless bums from their grates, illegal Mexicans from the apple fields, and dead people out of the obits than usual, and on the other side, people don't believe McCain is as conservative as they are. If McCain wins, there were enough people to carry him across the finish line who can hope McCain halfway sticks to his recent conservative promises until we can get a true dynamic conservative to run. I do realize the DNC in coordination with the MSM targeted the most promising conservatives to take down (George Allen, Rick Santorum, Tom Delay) through a series of witchhunts and blow-up "offenses". But I think Sarah is strong enough to survive and then some.

  18. It's funny - I went to a number of different websites to try and understand different perspectives on issues since we weren't seeing any rational explanation of issues from McCain supporters. Two in particular were most interesting and I would recommend visiting them.

    http://www.democratsformccain.com/

    http://www.republicansforobama.org/?q=node/3341

The "republicans for Obama" site has a lot of information and a list of prominent republicans who support Obama and why. The site also lists the people who run the organization.

The "democrats for McCain" site does not identify who runs the organization - no list of officers. I may have missed it, but I could find no listing of prominent democrats who support McCain. I found some letters that supposedly came from democrats as to why they support McCain, but they were not signed.

The dogmatic unreasoning and intolerant attitude that you and some of your party take is at the heart of many of our problems. To you there is only one approach to a given problem and you will keep pounding away with that approach even though it isn't working. We need real cooperation across party lines and you only see compromise as capitulation. Attempts at real discussion are met with scorn and belittlement. McCain's demagoguery is arguably the most dangerous thing facing this country today. If McCain wins because of support of people like you, then America is no longer the country as laid out in our constitution - it will be a place of intolerance and fear.

  19. Josh, thankfully I do not know any Conservatives like you but judging just by your postings on this site, I feel certain that no Conservative (by your standards) will ever be President of the United States. Amen 4!
