Here's a headline I never expected from Fox News

Obama Dazzles Dems and GOP with Cabinet Picks

I think they call this the honeymoon period.

  1. It may be good but it isn't "change", that for sure. He's picked an All-Star team of insiders.

I am hoping for an Al Haig moment starring Hillary

"While Obama is playing golf in Augusta, I am in charge here at the White House".

    Comment by Henry — December 2, 2008 @ 1:17 pm

  2. Yea, I noticed that too. O must have made so many promises, to so many people, to gather enough support to win his election -- where will he ever find the time to keep the promises he made to US?

    Comment by Ed H — December 2, 2008 @ 3:46 pm

  3. Lesson learned? Don't say you really believed him! I sure didn't and didn't vote for him either.

    Comment by Al — December 4, 2008 @ 9:43 pm

  4. what exactly are you guys griping about here. So far, Obama has nominated people for his cabinet...he hasn't even been sworn into office yet. What exactly has got you upset this early in the game?

    Comment by HCS — December 5, 2008 @ 10:36 am

  5. Welcome to politics, HCS.

Anyone hear that are planning to allow bars to server until 5AM in DC during the inaugaration? That's going to be some party.

    Comment by Henry — December 5, 2008 @ 12:00 pm

  6. Al, I can assure you (from my own experience) that merely not voting for the candidate that won, and completely distrusting, disliking, even insulting him on any occasion is cold comfort indeed. I have felt your pain, dude, but sadly the failure you, Ed H. and Henry are wishing for will impact us as well. You did it to Carter, we did it to Reagan, You did it to Clinton, we did it to Bush and now...will it ever end? Obama promised change, he did not promise new and inexperienced. Do you want new and inexperienced people helping any President run this country, especially with this economy, two war fronts and another looming? I know it sounds self-serving to ask that you wait for the actual failures and let downs, maybe even the inauguration, but I think good Americans are trying.

  7. HCS,
There is no way, NO WAY, Obama can keep alll his promises.
Not with a tanking economy and promising all the health care along with not getting tough on illegle immigration.
There has been only one president in history that has kept all his promises and even Honost Abe couldnt do it.
So the question is which far left wacko group is he going to peave off.

  9. May God forgive me...Herb, please share what President you think kept ALL of his promises? If you admit that only one in 44 has, what exactly is your point in trying to slam Obama with it the charge?

Henry, so the bars get some big profit, the police get some big overtime pay, and many get a hangover. Seeing people happy is a good thing (especially now), even if you are not happy along with them and I am not happy about alcohol flowing.

    Comment by Sandi Saunders — December 5, 2008 @ 12:26 pm

  10. Sandy my point is they all LIE. We just seen your boy Obama coming, there is no way to keep all he has promised. They only thing that is promised is the bread line about now and as you can see most are the Liberal dem's that are losing there jobs. Union's, low wage earners etc.. all the ones that voted for him are now sucking wind. Keep up the good work.
The only way to get this economy going again is people like myself willing to hire people but not at the expense of the co.
As for me I am a republican. You my have the power in Washington but we have the power to run the economy.
It is our decision weather to hire or keep the green cash.
    Ours solely.

  11. Herb, I sincerely doubt that one's political affiliation makes one layoff proof. The hardship is widespread.

    Comment by Luanne T. — December 5, 2008 @ 1:58 pm

  12. It is a lie to say that they all lie, Herb. It is a lie.

    Comment by WW — December 5, 2008 @ 2:07 pm

  13. Herb, you sound entirely too gleeful over such a prospect. I am as partisan as they come and still THAT is sad. If I post my email address will you let me know where never to apply for employment?

    Comment by Sandi Saunders — December 5, 2008 @ 2:20 pm

  14. WW AND YOUR POINT IS.

    Comment by HERB KREBS — December 5, 2008 @ 2:34 pm

  15. WW,
I really dont understand your point.
    Luanne,
If the big 3 go under who will be the first and most wide spread to feel it.
The union's and trickle down union affilates.
They where Obama backers so they are getting what they deserve.
I on the other hand will have cash on hand and ability to hire who and when I want. As I said it is the Owners and upper mgt that makes this
decision and the majority are wall st repubs.
    Thats just a fact.
So in essence we do hold the economic power.
Are some going to go under, sure but it will be the workers that feel it not the ones with plenty resources.

    Comment by HERB KREBS — December 5, 2008 @ 2:38 pm

  16. Sandi,
you dont have to worry about that.
I am not happy about this at all.
the point is that Obama cant do anything with out wall st.
In your statment in another post you stated you were a liberal democrat
so please spare me the partisan phrase.
You leftest want a country like San Fran.
As for me I will let this country sink first before that happens.

  17. Herb...

If the Republicans did such a great job of running the economy, why is it that the economy is in such a deep ditch right now?

  18. MY POINT IS THAT IT DOES NO GOOD TO USE HYPERBOLE AND LABEL ALL OF THOSE YOU DISLIKE OR DISAGREE WITH AS LIARS. ONE WHO DOES SO IS EITHER A LIAR OR DOES NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEMS WITH WHICH WE ARE FACED.
    Please excuse me for yelling.

    Comment by WW — December 5, 2008 @ 3:04 pm

  19. Will,
Please read your comment carefully as the economy was doing great until
the dems got control of congress and promised housing to everyone even ones who could not offord it.
That is the problem with the democratic party.
They have champaign taste with a water pocket.
    WW,
I guess you had no problem calling Bush a lier along with the rest of the left cronies but when the shoe is on the other foot it feels tight doesnt it.

    Comment by HERB KREBS — December 5, 2008 @ 3:38 pm

  20. oh my - i see i missed a lot since i last posted.
Herb post #7: we all already know that herb. just link we know that no matter who was elected into office could never have kept any of their promises either unless their promise was to do absolutely nothing.

I was just asking what you are so upset about already. You have absolutely no idea what obama will do in office because he hasn't even gotten there yet. I am certain McCain wouldn't be able to keep all of his promises either but somehow I think that if he were elected you wouldn't be on here running your mouth about it.

    Comment by HCS — December 5, 2008 @ 3:50 pm

  21. Herb,

Please read those articles again. They clearly point out

    1) that the people who dug the deepest holes were NOT the ones affected by the legislation you loathe. Quote: " Many of the biggest subprime lenders weren't banks and thus weren't covered by the Community Reinvestment Act."

    2) There is good evidence that pushing these mortgage plans was Bush's attempt to get minorities to join the republican party. At the very least, it was NOT shoved down his throat. See: http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/homeownership/homeownership-policy-book-execsum.html

    3) There are several subprime lenders who are doing well even now. The problem occurred when unethical lenders pushed poor risks so they could realize large profits.

  22. Herb...

Democrats obtained control of Congress in 2006 (without a filibuster proof majority). The Republicans have controlled Congress since 1996. That looks like 10 years of Republican control Congress and 8 years of Republican control White House.

Your logic that the Democrats could have caused all this to happen from 2006 to now has too many holes in it to hold water. Republicans have no more capability than Democrats do at this point regarding the economy. It's now up to the people to decide what they want to do.

If there's ever been a doubt before, it should be crystal clear that this is a consumer based economy and before anything will happen, the consumer is going to have to feel comfortable spending again. As a part of that equasion, it will be mandatory that we get manufacturing jobs back in the states so that the population can afford to buy the goods and services being produced.

We've shipped and outsourced so many jobs out of the country that our population is finding it increasing difficult to buy goods and services having relied way to heavily on credit. Sooner or later the credit bubble will burst (and burst it has).

Bottom line is people have to work in order to draw paychecks so they can buy something...no work = no paycheck = no buying power = recession/depression.

    Comment by Will — December 5, 2008 @ 4:29 pm

  23. Those who are saying we have no idea what Obama will do have not been paying attention. He's already doing it! All those Clinton-era retreads he's naming are the people he's going to nominate for the key posts in his administration.

You don't get change from stuck-in-a-rut, "experienced" old fogeys. You get change from people with fresh ideas. Unfortunately, fresh means inexperienced, which means less competent. It's always a trade-off between innovation and experience.

With the economic crisis looming, experience is probably what we need right now. But it's not what we're going to need to get worthwhile change, long term.

    Comment by Ed H — December 5, 2008 @ 4:59 pm

  24. So you think its okay to lie, then, Herb? You never saw me calling anyone a liar. But since others have called your guys liars then its okay for one cast the same stone. Okay, Herb. When one makes absolute statements, as in "they All lie" (my caps for the sake of illustration) one is, indeed, lying oneself.

    Comment by WW — December 5, 2008 @ 5:09 pm

  25. It is easy to talk trash hiding behind Intials for Names.
At least i am out there saying my peace and and giving full disclosure more then i can say for half the bloggers in here.
Afraid someone might see your true feelings.
WW dont be such a coward.
As for the failing of the housing crises 2 months before it fell Barney Frank went nationwide saying its all ok.
So I guess he got the same info that Bush got to go to war.
    Give me a break.
If it walks and talks like a duck I come to the conclusion its a Duck
I guess you would analize and say what type of Duck. To set the record straight MR. WW I never said Obama lied I said that all politicians do.
When they run a campaign they know darn right they will never keep all there promises.
They need to say this is what I am going to try to Do. Not this is whats going to happen. That then becomes a LIE.

    Comment by Herb Krebs — December 5, 2008 @ 6:14 pm

  26. Herb #16 post: What do I not have to worry about? You have some very confusing posts, sir. Yes, I am a liberal Democrat, which is why I stated "I am as partisan as anyone"... Would that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd had the unfettered power you have attributed to them...(shouldn't YOU be kicking some Republican butt for letting them do it?) You have a whole TV Network (where you obviously get your info) and a major Newspaper, how could you NOT get the word out? BECAUSE REPUBLICANS DID NOT WANT TO either! If you are not happy, why post such vitriol about Obama voters losing their jobs? "Obama cannot succeed without Wall Street"; you better look again. Recent information I heard noted that Obama received considerable money from Wall Street as well as (what you characterize as) Republican corporations. Corporations and Wall Street will do what makes them money. Historically, the friend in need may have been the Republicans but the truth is that (much to my chagrin at times) Democrats found some love for big business and "money people" too AND the affections have been returned. There may be people like you at the masthead who hope that the heads that roll are the opposing political party, but many CEO's and "money people" will always tell you the bottom line is profit and success (which thankfully keeps us liberals employed). If you had the control you brag about, John McCain would be the President Elect. FYI, there are rich liberal Democrats too, and more on the way.
