Mumbai attack adds urgency to wmd warning
In an editorial we're working on for later in the week, we'll write that President-elect Barack Obama should put at the top of his foreign-policy agenda gaining global consensus to stop the spread of nuclear and biological weapons. The Washington Post obtained a draft report by a bipartisan congressional task force that puts the odds at better than even that terrorists will use a weapon of mass destruction somewhere in the world before 2013. But, The Post reports, the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism finds "nuclear terrorism is still a preventable catastrophe." The world has been hearing that warning at least since 9/11/2001. The Mumbai attack should renew the post 9/11 sense of urgency to keep opportunity out of the hands of terrorists.

Al,
We said there were no WMDs in Iraq, not in all the world.
The Pentagon agreed with us about Iraq.

hindsight, of course. I suppose all those Kurds just got in line and dranks some spiced cool-aid. My bet is that the bad guys, contrary to what you probably believe, folded their tent and took the booty with them to one of the evil nations just across the border sometime around 2/03 or even earlier when invasion became obvious. Small scale research and development of many such wmd's can be done in the back of a couple semi trailers and moved very easily. Blending the agent with a functional delivery system may require more. That part is now going on the probably in Iran as well as several other nations (and not all in the "middle east").
We Americans are a funny lot. We just cannot accept people want to do us in with a passion rooted in their religon that drives them to strap one on, a bomb that is, and blow us up. And all we want to do is defend their "right" to do so and "negotiate" a peaceful settlement. What the attack in BOMBAY should be telling us is that they do not need wmd's. We saw that on 9-11 also. Now, let's step up our efforts to ban possession of firearms and celebrate some diversity.
