This potentially distinguished museum has suffered long enough at the hands of inept leadership. This $3 million challenge is worth the effort to recruit a capable professional to take charge and steer the institution creatively and aggressively into the long-term future. The Mariners' Museum in Newport News is now headed successfully by the former president of William & Mary College, a skilled leader with a global perspective, who had no prior background in maritime activities nor the museum field. The Transportation Museum is pathetically local.
