This $3 million challenge is worth the effort to recruit a capable professional to take charge and steer the institution creatively and aggressively into the long-term future. The Mariners' Museum in Newport News is now headed successfully by the former president of William & Mary College, a skilled leader with a global perspective, who had no prior background in maritime activities nor the museum field. The Transportation Museum is pathetically local. This potentially distinguished museum has suffered long enough at the hands of inept leadership.
