Takes money to drive city buses over border

We've talked here before about Valley Metro's bus routes and have lamented that they don't reach into the county. On Monday, Valley Metro gave Roanoke City Council an overview.

When Councilwoman Gwen Mason asked if there was any hope of getting Roanoke County to join in the public transit system, the general manager responded: "We've talked with them recently about the 419 corridor. Soon as we start talking about funding, they get hard to get a hold of."

Council members said they would initiate conversations with their county counterparts to see if there couldn't be a way to work on expanding the public transit system.

The cause might best be advanced if those who live in the county and wish to see bus service also lobbied county officials.
