Discuss Trejbal's column on primary elections
Republicans must wait until November
By Christian Trejbal
On June 9, Virginia Democrats will elect candidates to run for governor and lieutenant governor in November. Republicans, however, do not want their voters to have a say in those decisions.
One of Virginia's electoral oddities is that primaries are optional. The political parties decide whether to hold them, and often they choose not to.

In other forums, they call threads like this "Concerned Troll" threads. They are so named when folks from the other party provide recipes and prescriptions for your party which will purportedly make it more successful. The irony is, of course, these authors want no such thing. They're hoping your party will lose which invites the question why on earth would anyone heed their advice? Very often the media comes up with Concerned Troll editorials advising conservatives and the GOP. You never see them prescribed for Democrats, however.
The other most frequently used Concerned Troll theme of recent months:
"The GOP needs to become more moderate if it hopes to win elections"

And in other forums, people actually read and understand what they are talking about DT. If you go back and look again, you'll see that my piece criticized both parties for this practice. It just happens that this year the Republicans are the ones eschewing a primary. Who's the real troll here?
Oh, and I'm on neither side. I've never registered with a political party and am no huge fan of the Ds or the Rs these days.

Christian,
"Oh, and I'm on neither side. I've never registered with a political party and am no huge fan of the Ds or the Rs these days."
Thanks for my "Laugh of the Day".

I would imagine Christian, even though he may not be registered to either party, opposes the R's a lot more often than the D's.

Nah, we can still vote in the primary. For a Democrat.

I personally think the Republicans should continue doing exactly what they've been doing. It's working great for them, and far be it for the rest of us to try to imply otherwise!
