It seems no one covering the "hero" in the media bothered to check out his story because they agreed with him. It was a complete fabrication. He was outed by wary veterans.

Who covered him Henry? I'd never heard of him till reading this article in the NYT which is all about his getting outed. From the list, "not just politicians, but also police chiefs, reporters and veterans advocates"...lots of people bought his story.
