Preserving America's history
President Obama replaces the man who compiles the record of America's foreign relations.
Ph.D.s in history need to work somewhere, and a couple of dozen find employment with the State Department's Office of the Historian. They compile the documentary history of the nation's foreign relations. At least they are supposed to. In recent years, internal problems and weak leadership have hindered their work. Fortunately, a change in administration might set them back on track.

To "trumpet that the nation's history is in good hands again" would also be to trumpet that it has not been and therefore calls into question the whole effort. Our ability to see the log in our own eye has been repeatedly brought into the debate and reinforcing the question seems counter intuitive to me. This was the better way to handle it and you know it. Bigger picture: And people think politics and partisan belief has no effect? That is the part of the story that should be trumpeted to the voters in this country. There is so much more to a vote than just the name on the ballot. That angle I am totally in line with and believe the bruises are worth the effort.
