Standardize cell phone chargers (and other electronics preferably)

We were heartened to hear that the European Union and cell phone manufacturers have reached a deal for the companies to standardize the chargers for cell phones. In the future, all European cell phones will be compatible with Micro-USB chargers.

In an editorial we're writing for next week, we'll express tremendous hope that the same standardization comes to American cell phones and other rechargeable electronic devices.

  1. I would settle for gas tanks on the same sides of cars!

  3. I had an old car where the tank was in the back under the license plate and that was convenient because I could get gas on either side of the pumps.

Having cell chargers be compatible would be a huge convenience. I wouldn't have to buy new ones everytime I get a new phone.

  4. Susan the most annoying part of getting a new cell is having to fork over $20 for yet another car charger. Who doesn't have a drawer somewhere filled with obsolete phone chargers?

All of the phones I've had have come with a charger. So I'm cool either way.

  6. I think this is a GREAT idea and needs to be pushed even farther. So much waste is created when phones die and the charger is still fine but unusable. This idea should be pushed and expanded. I agree!

  9. I was referring to having to buy the car charger, not the one that plugs in the wall. However, like Kristen, I have tons of them at home that are no longer needed and it seems like a waste.

  10. I too was just talking about car chargers. If anyone's getting a free one of those, I'd love to know about it.
