NOT the Chamber of Commerce
I really don't know what to make of this, otherĀ than it is entertaining political theater: As part of a stunt put on by The Yes Men - a group I've never heard of, but maybe should have - someone claiming to represent the U.S. Chamber of Commerce held a press conference announcing the Chamber had reversed its position on climate change and was getting behind strong legislation to limit carbon emissions.
It got really interesting when a real Chamber of Commerce representative crashed the party.

Funny as can be,wow those guys at the Chamber of Commerce have got to loosen up.

Whats funny about this whole thing is that...the ENTIRE mainstream media bit on the gag! They wanted to believe SO bad. The media looked like fools here.

Call security.
Comment by Blue John — October 20, 2009 @ 5:23 pm
It's funny that the Chamber of Commerce has spent give or take spent 34 million in the third quarter of 2009 to have a aggressive lobbying effects in congress and these guys do this.
The thing about clean coal needs to be brought out in the day light.
Comment by Bill Hudson — October 20, 2009 @ 5:50 pm
Wow, And to think the New York Times and Washington Post ran with this hoax without vetting it. So much for the leftwing media outlets being more legitimate than FOX.
It would be funny if the amount of leftwing deception on global warming weren't already so pronounced. This is actually a pretty good caricature of the way Democrats do business. Fraudulently.
Comment by Suzie — October 20, 2009 @ 9:53 pm
T Witten #2,
Yeah, these clueless addled "reporters" were still asking global warming questions even after the "news conference" was proven a fraud.
Comment by Suzie — October 20, 2009 @ 10:04 pm
'The' Chamber of Commerce ran an ad tonight, endorsing 'ole McDonnell Pat Robertson for Governor, directly after the debate on NBC.
I thought the REAL Chamber of Commerce was non-partisan; I guess I was wrong. Or, is this an 'off-shoot' group, using 'THE' to imply that they are the Chamber.
@4: thanks, I didn't realize the magnitude of their expenditures.
@5: not all folks, let alone Democrats, 'do' business fraudulently. Try Watergate, Iran-Contra, Cheney Black Water, 'stay out of the Bushes'...I could go on.

Keep fighting the good battle Suzie
Comment by Michael A, Howdyshell — October 20, 2009 @ 10:46 pm
@#6 What's even funnier Suzie is when the 'fake' guy at the end was getting asked those global warming questions, he couldnt even answer them. Sort of like the hundreds of interviews from Leno and others with Obama supporters who couldnt even name one issue that Obama supported. LOL
Comment by Marked Man (Mark) — October 21, 2009 @ 8:33 am
Yes, Mark. And why would the idjit reporter continue asking the guy questions even after he was exposed as afraud? It was like, as T Witten said, she wanted SO much to believe the National CC changed their position and started advocating this nonsense.

The simple nonsense as you say is bring a point to the public and that is what(the Yes Men) they do. And its funny but to say that deception on global warming is really turning it around. Maybe you folks do not believe science no matter what, do your homework.
This is why the GOP is losing, the far right wing is taking over their party.

McDonnell = red meat conservative = 9 point lead in a "blue" state.
How the theory that the "far right" is hurting the GOP working out?
Comment by Suzie — October 21, 2009 @ 11:49 am
"Far Right" seems to mean true Americans: i.e.strongly supporting the 1st and 2nd Amendments of the US Constitution
Comment by Patt — October 21, 2009 @ 12:05 pm
#19 point taken for the moment but just take a look at the Gallup poll and the numbers are there the GOP numbers are going down. The thing is inside the GOP is is a fight as to bring them back more to the center instead of the far right. But why they chose to be on the wrong side of the issues is beyond me. Like the 30 GOP folks who voted against amendment to a defense appropriations bill that would prevent the federal government from funding contractors whose employee contracts prevent workers from pursuing allegations of rape against co-workers.
Very wrong and they should be ashamed.
Comment by Bill Hudson — October 21, 2009 @ 12:05 pm
Does anyone have a link to the Defense Amendment? It may have worth supporting or it may be a piece of garbage.
Comment by Patt — October 21, 2009 @ 12:18 pm
A recent ABC/WSJ poll found that only one in five Americans call themselves Republican. Virginia may be the GOP's last stand.

"Virginia may be the GOP's last stand."
Considering VA went Blue in the last few elections (Obama and Warner in '08, Webb in '06, and Kaine in '05), flipping the Commonwealth would be a major statement.
The fact that NJ is even considering a Republican for Gov. should be an indication to any rational person that all is not well with the Dem party right now.
Comment by Mike — October 21, 2009 @ 2:05 pm
@17 - Did they also ask them whether these folks are conservative? I claim to be a conservative, not necessarily a Republican. As do many others. More transparently misleading information?
Comment by Walker — October 21, 2009 @ 3:33 pm
@18
The Party of No continues to splinter along idealogical lines. Flipping the Commonwealth would be a temporary glitch.
Comment by Art Hill — October 21, 2009 @ 3:54 pm
#17 - I think it would be more accurate to say 1 in 5 PEOPLE WHO WERE POLLED call themselves Repubicans.
It's widely known that poll results can say whatever the pollsters want. So why do people even bother paying attention to them?
Comment by Patrick — October 21, 2009 @ 4:03 pm
@ Art #20
Hard to believe the vaunted Democratic party can't manage to win an election in a blue state and only 20% opposition party identification. The poor Dems must be in an even worse situation than those mighty Dems.
Last stand to temporary glitch....Nothing to see here
Flipping the Commonwealth is one thing. Flipping NJ hasn't happened since 1993, which was a precursor to the first Republican majority in the House since the Eisenhower Administration.

@11 Bill, how much man-made pollution brought about the last ice-age?
Comment by Marked Man (Mark) — October 21, 2009 @ 4:57 pm
I guess Mr. McDonnell learned as much at Pat Robertson School of Law an the rest of George Bush's Justice Department. Let's see, torture is legal, using the office for political withc hunts is legal, and on and on.
Comment by Richard — October 21, 2009 @ 6:13 pm
Oh, man this ridiculous fake Chamber of Commerce thing keeps getting better.
In video, we see the dimwitted liberal reporters actually trying to shush the real spokesperson up so they can hear more from the fake guy. Now today, CNN actually interviewed the faker on the air. LOL. Unbelievable. This so-called "credible" news network interviewed an <em actor as if he's an actual player in this debate. It would be like them having Martin Sheen on and asking him policy questions. Talk about a Mickey Mouse operation.
