  1. Just brilliant. I think this pretty much ends the Emmy competition right here. Truly very funny stuff.

    Comment by Saintbridge — November 6, 2009 @ 9:25 am

  2. Stewart is great. And he describes Beck perfectly. Beck is either completely disingenuous to earn money or he's totally nuts.

    Comment by gdad — November 6, 2009 @ 9:49 am

  3. Amazing. You don't have enough time to write your own article describing your feelings about Glen Beck and his opinions on Obama's associations and possible Marxist views and yet you use John Stewart and a comedy skit to somehow diminish one of the most popular shows on a Cable News Network.
Brilliant. Obviously the editors of The Roanoke Times don't appreciate Mr. Becks show as much as the 3.1 million viewers who tune in nightly. But don't worry. During the eight minutes you had me watching this video I could have been surfing your web site possibly clicking on some of your advertisements and generating you some profits.

  4. The Glen Beck entertainment show is also the gift that keep on giving. The material just leaves itself open for some great stuff. Keep going GOP you are doing great. Whatever you want to say at least a lot of folks are saying, "I'm not with those guys" or the numbers in the GOP are not doing that great which is not a bad thing.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 6, 2009 @ 9:54 am

  5. Saintbridge, you are right on.

    Comment by Richard — November 6, 2009 @ 9:55 am

  6. I don't get it? But then again canuck humor typically goes over my head.

    Comment by mattyr — November 6, 2009 @ 9:56 am

  7. Awesome performance by Stewart. Beck's show is simultaneously hilarious and depressing. His popularity is a sad example of the lack of critical thinking in America. I suppose it will always be the case that large numbers of people will always prefer having their own biases validated by others over challenging themselves to gain an understanding of issues. Beck and Fox profit by exploiting mental laziness and intolerance.

mattyr - Canuck? Is there a Canadian involved in this somehow?

    Comment by sheikyerbouti — November 6, 2009 @ 11:17 am

  8. Very ironic that Stewart waits until Beck is in the hospital before he goes after him. But then, Beck is taking Stewart's lunch money every day so Stewart had to wait for Beck's back to be turned before he stuck out his tongue.

    Comment by Henry — November 6, 2009 @ 11:30 am

  9. #8 Stick out his tongue? Did I get that right? You mean like they use do in High school? There is a saying, what comes around goes around. So my question would be, why be surprised why folks are going after this nut?
If one keeps dishing out the stuff he does why not make fun of him? There is a lot of good stuff there.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 6, 2009 @ 11:46 am

  10. Who is Jon Stewart?

    Comment by T Witten — November 6, 2009 @ 12:15 pm

  11. Henry, Stewart has gone after Beck numerous times before. In fact I think Beck got his poor wittle feelings hurt one time.

    Comment by gdad — November 6, 2009 @ 12:22 pm

  12. mattyr, Beck is sometimes a nutty conspiracy type guy. Stewart was making fun of that tendency.

    Comment by gdad — November 6, 2009 @ 12:23 pm

  13. the 3.1 million viewers who tune in nightly

If we could just get them all in one place and drop the net...

    Comment by Art Hill — November 6, 2009 @ 12:28 pm

  14. So let's see Chris Muse, a few million listen to Beck, so that makes him right and beyond parody? If I remember correctly, hundreds of millions revered Mao, tens of millions were ardent Hitler fans, millions loved Jimmy Carter. Heck, almost 20 million listen to Rush. All it shows is how good he is a bamboozling people.

    Comment by gdad — November 6, 2009 @ 12:29 pm

  15. I can't believe you said said that, Art (#13)! So, you'd rather just do away with those who don't agree with you?

BTW - I don't watch Beck or listen to Rush or anyone else except for ESPN on the radio...

    Comment by Danny — November 6, 2009 @ 12:42 pm

  16. Gdad,
you and saint bridge still upset from Tues.
Dont forget that Glen Beck had alot to do with that.
Jon Stewert cant even draw his own base.
Glen is the real deal and it will show again in
    2010.
Just like I said back in may that we would sweep.
Well now we will do the same again in 2010 with Beck and Oreilly.

    Comment by HERB KREBS — November 6, 2009 @ 12:44 pm

  17. Stewart making fun of Beck is like the Rice football team making fun of Alabama's defense. You can mock but you are still 0-8

    Comment by Henry — November 6, 2009 @ 12:51 pm

  18. #17 Thank you in making my point, that fixed network is really GOP network.
Keeping going you guys are doing great. You will sink your own party.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 6, 2009 @ 12:56 pm

  19. @18 that doesn't make sense.

    Comment by mattyr — November 6, 2009 @ 1:04 pm

  20. Glen Beck....

If that's the example of well reasoned mentality, we're all in a heep o' deep stuff.

    Comment by Will — November 6, 2009 @ 1:11 pm

  21. #20 very true I think at times the GOP party is dominated by people who should be in psych hospitals under close observation. They say the first step is realizing you have a problem.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 6, 2009 @ 1:20 pm

  22. The most interesting thing about Glenn Beck was the difference in watching him on CNN and watching him on FOX. I actually used to watch him on CNN sometimes, because he was mildly amusing, then wham one day when he changed networks, he got downright nasty... almost as if Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter had attached strings to his body and mouth and started pulling on him like a Marionette.

    Comment by scott — November 6, 2009 @ 1:20 pm

  23. @20 ~ Especially with the gorgeous looks of Racel Maddow. Sarah Palin doesn't even hold a candle to her. Stupid GOP. Funny how Beckies phone never rings.

    Comment by mattyr — November 6, 2009 @ 1:22 pm

  24. we're all in a heep o' deep stuff.

Yep. Spreading hatred and fear has become quite the cottage industry.

    "Spreading hatred and fear"

    Check this out. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/09/17/pelosi_chokes_up_warning_against_political_violence.html

Didnt she call protesters Nazis? Sounds like hate and fear to me?

    Comment by T Witten — November 6, 2009 @ 2:23 pm

  26. gdad - I believe you forgot the rules of a good argument. As soon as you bring up Hitler your point is invalidated. Try something else.
I said 3.1 million people "appreciate" Glen Beck's show. I didn't say he was "right or beyond parody".
I curious if people have a problem with Beck the messenger? His message is fairly clear. This country is turning Socialist and our Economy is heading for a disaster. Does anyone want to argue with "spread the wealth" or our now 10.2% unemployment, broke FDIC, and continued Quantitative Easing,

    Comment by Chris G. Muse — November 6, 2009 @ 2:34 pm

  27. #25 Just look at those nutty tea baggiers and their signs. It is them who keep getting it mixed up between Nazi and socialism and all that. You want hate and fear and paranoia? Its all there for anyone who has the patience to stand it.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 6, 2009 @ 2:36 pm

  28. @23...Mattyr...

Frankly, I think Rachel Maddow is considerably more attractive than Sarah Palin. Sarah, with her fem fatalle winks and nods, seems shallow at best and deceptive at worst. Rachel can at least articulate a clear thought even though you may not agree with its content. With Palin, I've yet to hear her articulate anything with any degree of logic and intelligence (I wonder if she and Morgan Griffith are related?).

    Comment by Will — November 6, 2009 @ 2:47 pm

  29. @28 - I know, seriously. I don't listen either.

    Comment by mattyr — November 6, 2009 @ 2:58 pm

  30. @ Bill and Art - Maybe you two should actually read what you are posting on this blog, then come back and scold us some more for spreading hatred and fear...

I'm still amazed that some of you will use "teabagger" as a way to denigrate someone who doesn't agree with you. Funny that everytime I've posted the definition of that word, it gets deleted and not posted... Wonder why??

One more thing...why are you folks so torn up about a commentator? I don't see this type of stuff over the idiocy of Tim McCarver in the WS...

    Comment by Danny — November 6, 2009 @ 3:32 pm

  31. @10 He is a guy that, on the depth chart, is behind Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Kilborn, Tom Snyder, David Letterman, and Conan O'Brien. He wanted to be a stand up comic upon graduating from William and Mary with a Psychology degree, but ended up working as a busboy, puppetteer, and shelf stocker. He was canceled by MTV. He changed his Jewish sounding name in order to try and fit in.
In other words, maybe some day he will get a gig on a largely successful network... maybe.

  32. At least Beck backs up his theories with plenty of supporting audio/video of those in and around the Obama administration.

Funny that nobody can deny the proof. Libs can only attack Beck personally, they can't refute what he's saying. Straight from the Alinsky radical playbook.

    Comment by Rick — November 6, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

  33. @15: Um, Danny? I think that was a joke. Lighten up, brother.

    Comment by Saintbridge — November 6, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

  34. A little background on Glen Beck. (It's been linked before, but an interesting read nonetheless.) Stewart's impression was spot-on.

you'd rather just do away with those who don't agree with you?

In a perfect world, yes, but one must also be pragmatic.
    It's called sarcasm, Danny.

  36. "you'd rather just do away with those who don't agree with you?"

"In a perfect world, yes, but one must also be pragmatic."

That's right. In utopia the party of tolerance would just do away with anyone who disagreed with them, but pragmatism prevents it. HAHAHA. Kill the dissenters. That's a funny joke.

  38. Look, why be surprised that yes, some go after this nut Beck. If you yourself throw the stones why be surprised someone else throws them back? If he wants to whines and throw up fear on the TV screen I am sure some from the right really do love this stuff. The GOP and fixed network is one of the same. To say other wise is not seeing the nose on one's face.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 7, 2009 @ 12:26 pm

  39. 38 apparently you have never watched the program. beck shows who barry hangs with, what they did and now do and what they stand for, and the connections to seiu, acorn, apollo and a host of other corrupt people/programs. if it werent true dont you think the white house would come out and deny some of the blantant 'lies' as you call them? they havent because they cant, because it is truth being presented and barry knows it. he is suffering an embarrassingly failing presidency and will go down in history as a miserable failure.

    Comment by pammala — November 7, 2009 @ 1:12 pm

  40. #38 I think our President is taking the high road in trying his best just to not pay attention to nut cases like this guy Beck. What is the point? Just comparing the issue of Health care reform to 9/11? Who is kidding who?
If the sound was off on the TV it would not be so bad and might be funny to watch. But I do not watch TV, I like to read.

    Comment by Bill Hudson — November 7, 2009 @ 1:25 pm

  41. Beck is a TV personality like Rush. Neither are even journalists. Might as well as have Kermit the Frog cite politics and economics. At least Kermit would have a clue.

    Comment by Richard — November 7, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

  42. 40 seiu has visited the white house 22 times this year so far to love on barry. it is public info and cannot be disputed, now why do ya think they are going over there so much...get much of a clue lately?

    Comment by pammala — November 7, 2009 @ 5:09 pm

  43. ..40 if you're not watching tv, then how do you know beck is telling fibs? he isnt and you cant disute that either..hide your head in the sand forever but one day you will see the barry isnt what this country needs, he doesnt even like this country
