Sports, anyone?

Heard Tuesday that a Hoosier fan was giving up his season tickets until integrity is restored to Indiana University's basketball program.

Integrity is not the first word I'd associate with IU's basketball program stretching back for a long time. Among Bobby Knight's embarassing behavior were the infamous chair-tossing and head-butting incidents. Kelvin Sampson was a serial NCAA rule violator.

As my mother would say, "Six on one hand, half-a-dozen on the other."

  1. I'm hoping others will give up most television until something worthwhile comes on. Hey, you're giving up the commercials, too!

I've had enough of the mindless sitcoms that have degraded into decreasingly subtle sex jokes (yawn), shows that glorify violence or the "bad guy", and "reality" TV that people cannot understand are doctored and scripted. (guess they figured out wrestling is fake, but didn't really carry that lesson over)

Good on him...though the main lesson in today's society comes from Verizon (who has a total lack of competent tech support, and a lack of interest in changing that). For every person that gives up their tickets, there are probably two or three willing to fork out the money for them.

  2. Touché

    Ed

Television has ran the gambit of over sexed people transcending to our prodigy daily lives as a norm to be accepted by there peers.

By playing sports and not sitting down with a controller in hand is a great way to inspire kids to loose the weight and get involved in positive outside activities.

Bobby Knight might be gone but his skills will endure and his undefeated season with Indy. Integrity must start somewhere yet there is one thing we are missing about those tickets.

Who did they belong to for instance "Dick Vitale" can do more damage, than Joe Average not being there.

At the end of the day Memphis has the best chance at being the next NCCA Champions!!!

Shanna Flowers

In her signature plainspoken style, Michigan native Shanna Flowers peels away the layers and gets to the heart of the issues. No pretense. Just straightforward perspective. Shanna writes about local people whose circumstances reflect decisions made as near as City Hall or as far away as the halls of Congress. Other times, she weighs in on a topic because it is incredibly ridiculous. Or heartening. Or fascinating. Read Shanna's column three days a week, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at roanoke.com
