Colin Powell: 2008 wild card?
OK, folks, we broached the idea earlier of a McCain-Rice ticket. How's about a McCain-Powell ticket?
More intriguing, but way too early to be considered is talk of an Obama-Powell pairing.
Pro: Obama sought Powell's counsel as early as last summer on foreign policy matters, and Powell has given Obama props as a candidate.
Con: Powell has said repeatedly he's not interested in elective office. Additionally, would someone who supported the Iraq war (at least ostensibly) and sold it (and a bill of goods) to the American people make a good running mate for a man who has partially staked his fame on his opposition to America's invasion of Iraq?
Let's not leave Clinton out of the mix: By showing all this love to John McCain, is she positioning herself for a No. 2 spot on the McCain ticket?
OK, gang, maybe this all is sorta loopy...but hit me back with your thoughts.

I don't think Colin Powell can ever reconcile his capitulating to the Bush Administration's tag team of Cheney/Rumsfeld; therefore, his never being to regain an non-compromising strength of character for a national political office. (Good man but bad judgement when it was most critical). I believe history will reveal that Cheney "has been calling the shots" throughout this Iraqi saga. Only Barack Obama has the plan to bring us out of this almost one-half decade Middle Eastern mess with sound judgement.

Whoa, Shanna! I am back from vacation and checking in on the columns and blogs I missed.
A McCain/Powell ticket would be strong for the Republicans. Still, I believe Powell was honest in his promise to his wife that he would not run. I don't think he will change his mind. (Hmmm . . . why do I still trust him?) I just can't see him running with McCain. Furthermore, why would McCain choose a running mate who no longer supports the war, which he said could last for years. (. . . 100.)
Like so many Americans, I trusted Powell and for a while I agreed with him. I am still in shock that we have been fighting that lame war for 5 years. And I am angry at myself for agreeing with it just because Powell did. At least he has admitted his mistake. It is one of the many reasons I support Obama so strongly. He was smart enough to oppose the war from the beginning.
After listening to Powell speak of the campaign, I believe that If he were to join a ticket it would be with Obama.
I have to agree, it is pretty loopy to think of a McCain/Clinton ticket. Did you really suggest that? You are funny. I think your point is that Hill comes across as THAT desperate to be president or vice president and at all costs. Republicans would croak first.
welcome home, golden! Nah, I didn't suggest Hill and McCain. I saw it on something I was reading. Again, it's just one of those stretch ideas from someone else, so I thought I'd bouce it off of my readers.--s

McCain-Clinton? If that happens I'll make my peace, because it would be proof positive that the end times are upon us.

I doubt Powell would accept an invitation. Didn't he basically get thrown to the wolves earlier? I think he's tired of the politics.
Clinton isn't looking for a "second place" spot. If she doesn't get the nomination, she'll continue in some politics (finishing out her senate seat), taking the camera time when possible for her next run. Wouldn't surprise me if, behind the scenes, she aggravates Pelosi a bit for taking so much of the stage.

politics is never on a straight and narrow path and anything that would take place in this coming election and its arena of folks running would not shock me...I have to laugh for I do have to agree with jus2kwik...ghees ole flip...McCain/Clinton...I would have to have front row on everything concerning that pair!!! Shall we say, OIL and WATER do not mix!!!!

McCain - Powell is the best option I can see available to us.
I shudder at any ticket that has either Clinton or Obama on it and I will have nightmares if a ticket shows up with both names.
My idea ticket would have had Colin Powell. But sadly, that isnt happening now.
Colin Powell is a Patriot and a Great American. He has done his duty and much more. It is hard to look such a great man in the eye and ask him to step up again when he has already given so much. But our nation needs him. Only he can bring us and Congress together for the greater good of the common cause.
Mr Powell. Would you make the sacrifice yet again for our country which needs you so badly?
