Backlash talks nukes...any takers?
On June 7, 1981, a squadron of Israeli Air Force F-16A fighter aircraft, with an escort of F-15As, bombed and heavily damaged the Osirak reactor.
The Israeli "Nuclear Reactor Strike" and Syrian Weapons of Mass Destruction October 24, 2007
The attached analysis shows, however, that several things that are clear about Syria's position, and puts any Syrian nuclear efforts in context. In brief:
Syrian chemical and possible biological capabilities do not give it a meaningful deterrent to Israel, do not rival Israel's status as a nuclear power, and might do more to justify an Israeli use of nuclear weapons in retaliation than achieve strategic benefits.
Iranian president says war with U.S., Israel ... including threats to hit Israel and U.S. Gulf bases with missiles and stop oil traffic
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., stated that sanctions and direct negotiations are the best way to deal with Iran Missile Test situation.
I respect the ideals of our youth yet,
If Sen. Obama thinks Israel is going let Iran Reactor go on line then he is delusional. History proves no matter who is in office Israel will attack that reactor.
Backlash

And who said Shanna only talks about black issues?
Some of it was a bit hard to follow, but I believe the gist is whether Israel is likely to attack the Iranian nuclear station, and what the US should do about it. A simple look at a map of the area shows this will not be an easy task. Those with the capability of independent thought will also realize that (assuming the Israelis do not have an aircraft carrier, which I believe they do not) the US will certainly be accused of knowing about the attack before it happens. This is just based on the air routes an attack would need to take, and the fact that, in a war, we have quite a bit of radar around there.
Israel will do what Israel needs to do. It's not like they're paranoid, they are literally surrounded by people hostile to them. What do we do? I don't know for now. Just depends on the situation. Maybe an incredulous look in public, with a light pat on the back in the backroom.

If Iran is allowed to develop nuclear weapons, the entire world will be at risk. There is probably nothing worse than a fanatical, tyrannical regime which desires martyrdom due to their twisted religion getting their murderous hands on the world's most dangerous weapons.
Everything that can be done to prevent it should be done, even if that means pursuing a military option. Just imagine a world with a country armed with nuclear weapons and no deterrence to use them.
They are not afraid of retribution; in fact, they would welcome it. In their minds, it would usher in their concept of Armageddon. The only thing worse than attacking Iran is not attacking them and allowing them to develop the bomb.

Due to our lackadaisical attitude as Americans we will be the first country since Japan to suffer a Nuclear Attack... Why? Israel secures it's borders and and take the first response to insure her enemies don't gain Nuclear Weapons by taking swift and decisive actions.
We as Americans grow weary of the fight to keep our people safe and would rather wallow in the glow of American Idol and take the pacifist road instead of "Peace through Strength".
Did we learn anything from The Pearl Harbor attack, The Oklahoma Bombing, Columbine School School shooting or both World Trade Center bombing and destruction. No!!!
Consider :
50 Megaton A-Bomb will incinerate everything in a 30 square mile upon detonation and killing every living thing within 300 miles ten minutes after detonation.
The Six-Day War
Was fought between Israel and Arab neighbors Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. The nations of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria also contributed troops and arms to the Arab forces.
Who won this Conflict with no help from any other nation?... Israel
Self reliance is the key to wining a battle not getting permission to engage your enemies from the United Nations.

Backlash my friend, I do not disagree with you one bit. Unfortunately someone here will have to do something about the situation, and it will likely be their unfortunate political demise. It's sad to see how backwards we are. People feel we should open our borders to the economic problems of other nations; Yet we cannot project our force when required to keep potentially devastating problems outside of our borders (such as what you describe here).
I do see this as a large problem. However, I see a much larger problem that people are largely ignoring: China. They are a direct reason for the increase in oil prices (increased demand); They manufacture a large portion of our electronics (huge security risk, though many think I'm paranoid). Even worse, I feel our economy is too tightly linked to them.
They may be able to win a war without firing a shot. Think of how hard off our lower-income population would be hit were the cheap chinese goods of Wal Mart cut off? Would they rebel? I would imagine the only thing protecting us right now is China is still a growing economy. What happens when they stabilize a bit more, get more support from the Russians, and restrict the milk flowing to our teat? I think our current vocal majority would rather cry (submit) than bite the teat.
Can we return Iran to the Persians? Would they run it a bit better? They have *great* food, and some good dancing.

During Desert Storm/Desert shield Saddam threaten Israel with Chemical Nuclear attack if attacked on the onslaught of the war Iraq launched over 100 Scud missiles toward Israel, on one occasion an asteroid exploded over the hemisphere of the region with the force of a 5 megaton nuclear warhead.
This was recently revealed on the Discovery Channel about "Asteroids".
If it were not for our safeguards and deals brokered with Israel then the Middle East would possibly the World would look very different today.
One other thing that 10 megaton nuclear weapon lost in Israel desert has never been found this is an area the Palestinians want to inhabit "Yea Right". The nuclear weapon dropped on Japan is now consider only a tactical weapon by today standards of weaponry.
News from JTA
Israel is using Iraqi air space and U.S. bases in Iraq to prepare for a strike against Iran, according to an Iraqi news report.

Backlash, good issue you raised. Iraq invades Kuwait, sees the hand (from the world, not just the US) come in for a heavy spanking, and decides to threaten Israel, even launching missiles against Israel. Wow, what's right about that? I wonder how tense our negotiations with Israel were for them not to directly attack?
We're in a unique position to be so geographically isolated. But that leaves the major threat of smuggling in a small nuke. While it wouldn't be a large-scale scenario of destruction like war, a small device would certainly create panic. I wonder what the response would be.
