Fifth annual Family Day Dinner with former NFL athlete
Around 180 folks, all families in Roanoke County and Roanoke City were invited to have dinner at the Burton Center for Arts and Technology with former NFL Philadelphia Eagles player, Ray Sydnor.
The Roanoke County Prevention Council and Ukrops sponsored the dinner, and Sydnor spoke to the kids--and their parents, about risky behaviors and how to prevent them. The Super Bowl-ring-wearer spoke on "the funny thing that happened on the road to success," how cocaine use derailed his life. Now, he's a motivational speaker for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and youth pastor for the Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York City.
Tuesday morning, he spoke to Glenvar High School, totalling nearly 1000 folks in the Roanoke Valley that he spoke to during his two-day visit. To learn more about the prevention council, visit their web site--the video currently posted is by Glenvar senior Arielle Rosmarino, the youth vice president for Community Builder's Network, a youth and adult partnership state Coalition of Coalitions
