"Pride of Salem" take the gold in Baltimore

The Salem High School Marching Band concluded their 2008 competitive marching season by earning 1st place honors in USSBA Group VI Division at the USSBA 20th Anniversary Celebration held at the home of the Baltimore Ravens - M & T Bank Stadium - on Sunday, November 9.

Winning Best Guard, Best Percussion, Best Visual, Best Music and Best Effect, the band earned their highest score of the season - 92.20 in capturing the Gold Medal. In the Overall Competition, the band placed 7th out of 32 bands competing.

The band continues to support the Salem Spartans on their quest for another State Championship, and will participate in the Vinton Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 4, and the Salem Christmas Parade on Friday, December 5. On Saturday, December 13 the band will host the VBODA District VI High School All-District Band auditions with over 45 schools participating. They conclude their marching season with their annual performance at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl - the NCAA Division III National Football Championship game held at Salem Stadium.

They wish to thank their many supporters, including the Salem Band Boosters, their parents, Faculty and Staff of Salem High School and the City of Salem.
