Charges against former Avalanche players dismissed

Here is a press release from the city of Salem detailing actions taken against two former Avalanche players:

Thomas E. Bowers, the Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Salem nolle prossed and discontinued the prosecution of the charges of disorderly conduct against Mark Anthony Ori and Koby Aaron Clemens this morning before General District Court Judge Jacqueline Talevi.

Ori and Clemens came back to Salem from their West Coast homes this week and visited four different locations in the Salem area on Thursday, November 20th. The two former Salem Avalanche players spoke to students and student-athletes about drugs, alcohol and the peer pressure influences that so often go hand in hand with playing sports.

Ori and Clemens spoke at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast at Salem High School on Thursday morning and then addressed three classes of 9th and 10th grade students at Glenvar High School in Roanoke County.

In the afternoon, they delivered their message to students at the Gus Mitchell School at HopeTree Family Services in Salem and then concluded their day by speaking to 150 athletes at the annual Winter Sports Pledge Meeting at Salem High School.

The Salem Commonwealth's Attorney believes the advice and insight provided by Ori and Clemens to the high school students of Salem and Glenvar is a valuable return of service to the community where their actions took place.

Here's a link to the Sept. 1 post on the disturbance that led to the players' arrest.
