Recycling center at Walmart in Salem is open for drop-offs

The new recycling center at Walmart officially opened its bin doors at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5. Walmart employees and city council were on hand to cut the ribbon, but the store's manager, Tom Jordan, said Salem folks had started recycling just after the bins were set up.

"We're glad to provide the service and hope that the community can utilize it," Jordan said. The placement of the bins on Walmart's property goes along with a sustainability initiative that the corporation started a few years ago. Assistant manager Chris Forbes took on the project with Salem city's solid waste manager, Jim Fender.
