The Rotary Club of Roanoke Valley honored seven persons by naming them as Paul Harris Fellows (PHF) at its annual award banquet on Thursday, June 12, at Hidden Valley Country Club. Receiving a PHF was Gates DeHart in recognitions of his service as the high school sponsor for the North Cross Interact Club for 16 years. Also recognized were Barbara Jennings, wife of the late Curtis "Rudy' Jennings who had served on the club Board, and Susan Bowman, wife of club member Garland Bowman, for their years of support of the club and the ideals of Rotary. Each of these recipients was praised for efforts in living out the 2008-09 Rotary theme to "Make Dreams Real".
In addition, PHFs were presented to several Rotarians in recognition of their service to the club, to Rotary International and to living out the Rotary Motto of "Service above Self", including club president Tarek Moneir and club members Don Nevins and Henry Woodward, who each received their second PHF and club member Earline Orndorff who was presented with her fourth PHF. Paul Harris Fellows are named after the founder of Rotary International, Chicago lawyer Paul Harris, and are in recognition of a contribution of $1000 being contributed to The Rotary Foundation in the name of the honoree.
