What's on the Salem Farmer's Market this weekend

Beth Carson sends her weekly email about what to expect on the Salem Farmer's Market this weekend:

Good Morning Everyone!

We have lots to look forward to this Fathers Day weekend! We will be welcoming three new vendors, there is a rumor that the first of the peaches and early transparent apples might be showing up, the tables are expected to be rented at full capacity, and we have another great Chef’s Circle event lined up! Tomorrow, we have Chef Michael Wright from Salem’s own Café Madrid! If you missed last weekend’s cooking demonstration, you missed out! Be sure and join us for this one!

Some of the items that our vendors expect to have on the market this weekend are:

Produce: lots of leafy lettuces, freshly cut herbs, mild Spring onions, tasty Spring peas (sugar snaps and regular varieties), beets, some baby squash, radishes, rhubarb, cherries, Swiss chard, baby spinach, and tender new broccoli, new potatoes, clingstone peaches, early transparent apples, cucumbers, zucchini, and blueberries.

Baked goodies: Artisan breads, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, brownies, muffins, scones, jams, and jellies.

Meats: grass finished beef and naturally raised pork

Cheeses: Sterling Bridge Dairy should have several varieties of their specialty cheeses to choose from.

Other goodies: Fresh local honey, garlic products, and doggie treats .

Gardening: beautiful hanging baskets, flowers, landscaping shrubs, and herbs for your kitchen garden

Crafts: Hand carved wooden crafts

This Saturday’s Chefs Circle Series features Chef Michael Wright of Café Madrid!

We have already had two wonderful weekends of Chefs on the market, and this Saturday’s Chefs Circle, looks like its going to be a good one too! Last week Chef Joshua Smith of Local Roots Café, delighted the crowd with a great pasta dish (using green onion tops in the pasta noodles), intrigued everyone with a “made- on- the spot” ice cream containing (of all things!) bacon and finished up with some awesome melt in your mouth sausages and homemade honey mustard sauce that Local Roots is making in house! We asked for new ideas for our market products, and our chefs are certainly stepping up to the plate! (Sorry folks, I couldn’t resist!)

This Saturday’s presentation also promises to be one that you don’t want to miss! We are pleased to present Chef Michael Wright from Salem’s own Café Madrid. Café Madrid specializes in dishes from central and coastal regions of Spain. Chef Michael will be preparing his menu straight from items that he finds on our vendors tables in the morning. Please come out and give him a warm Salem welcome, and be sure to drop by Café Madrid later for lunch!

The demonstration begins Saturday at 9:30am and will last about 30 minutes. We want to encourage folks to bring their lawn chair so that everyone can be comfortable while our chef is cooking.

Happy Fathers Day Weekend !
