First Annual City of Salem Benefit Golf Tournament August 1
The city of Salem is hosting its first annual benefit golf tournament August 1, with a rain date of August 8, on the newly renovated Salem Municipal Golf Course. This year, the proceeds will benefit the Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Salem Educational Foundation. Each year, the tournament will benefit a different local organization or cause, said Jane Johnson, who is helping to organize this year's event.
It's an 18-hole Captain's Choice tournament, open to men, women, and children of all ages. There are two flights: 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The entry fee is $35 per player, and folks can sign up in four person teams or as individuals. Awards will be given to the winners in each flight. The entry deadline is July 25. For more information about playing, contact Chuck Johnston at 389-9802.

Bob Johnson was a businessman and a leader in the Salem community for many years, but his passion for lacrosse and Salem's youth brought about his dedication to the sport. he was instrumental in the organization of Salem's youth lacrosse program. The scholarship will be given to a Salem student-athlete who has been a part of Salem's lacrosse program.
