The students in Dare to Soar got a close up of an old timey helicopter

On Thursday, October 8, 2009, Breckinridge Elementary in Fincastle was visited by a unique guest. The Dare To Soar after school program is a 5-week enrichment program offered to students to allow them to come and explore the fascinating world of flying. Ricky May and his wife Terriann of Salem landed their helicopter on the soccer fields at Breckinridge. The students were able to ask questions and view the helicopter up close. Ricky May is a local plumber who is able to live out his love of flying with his single engine airplane and vintage Hiller helicopter. The helicopter is an early model of a commercial copter, said Erynn Barkett.
