Photos: Glenvar cheer coach Jessica Madison gets a very public marriage proposal on homecoming night

The sky dried up at the end of the third quarter, and the announcer directed the Glenvar homecoming crowd's attention to a special dance by the cheerleaders. And they started a cheer that, verse by verse, that would ask Jessica Madison to marry Brian Jones.

"I just kind of came up with it on my own. It was kind of convenient that she's the cheerleading coach and she's always wanted something over the top. And I thought, ‘what a better way to do it,"' Brian said.

"All that I told Brian is that what I did picture in my mind was something being very extravagant, over the top," Jessica said. "He completely topped anything that I possibly could imagine."

The two met and dated seven years ago while working at the Cave Spring area Kroger. He graduated from Cave Spring in 2002, and she graduated from Hidden Valley in 2005.

"She was only 15 and he was 18, and I wouldn't let them date because she was so young," said Jessica's mom, Gayle Pringle. "I'd let him come to the house and hang out there and stuff. It was his senior prom, I did let her go, but he had to bring her back home right after."

"We were high school sweethearts seven years ago. We broke up because we were too young, but we never forgot each other. Every few months either I'd call her or she'd call me," Brian said.

They started dating again "for sure" six months ago, and they'd already started hanging out as friends about eight or ten months prior.

"We just both knew it," Brian said. About two months ago, he started planning his very public proposal. It took him three hours to write the cheer, and it took the cheerleaders three very secret practices to get it just right for Jessica. Her mom also played a big role, running errands and helping to keep the big question a big secret!

"My first thought was -  when in the world did they have the time to learn this?" said Jessica.

"It was very hard [to keep it a secret.] That made me just as nervous as it was proposing to her, the fact that it could get out," Brian said. "Luckily it didn't, but I think the girls knew just how important a moment it was."

And, by the way folks, she said yes! They're planning their wedding one year from their engagement day - October 16, 2010!
