Tonight's football forecast

Salem hosts Hidden Valley. Glenvar travels to Eastern Montgomery. Whichever game you're at, you probably want to be prepared for some weather. Here's what weather journalist Kevin Myatt forecasts:

Cloudy, cool and drizzly. Temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. Probably no pouring rain but there might be some light showers.

You can find more weather news on Kevin's Weather Journal blog. And, as always, if you're going to a game, you can share photos at news@sosalem.com.

Tonight's football forecast

Salem travels to Christiansburg. Glenvar hosts Radford. Either way, take your ponchos. Here's what weather journalist Kevin Myatt advises:

You will probably get wet tonight, and a rumble of thunder isn't out of the question. It won't be that cold, though, with temperatures in the upper 50s and low to mid 60s. Saturday looks soggy until about early afternoon, too.

Tonight's football forecast: Snow?

Glenvar holds its homecoming tonight, hosting Auburn. Meanwhile, Salem heads down to Blacksburg.

If you're going to either game, prepare to bundle up. Here's what weather journalist Kevin Myatt says to expect:

"Cloudy, damp and chilly ... temperatures mostly in the 40s. Snowflakes are not impossible in colder areas mainly west of I-81."

For more weather news, see Kevin's Weather Journal blog.

As always, though, take pictures! You can share at news@sosalem.com

Tonight's football forecast

Salem has its homecoming game tonight against William Fleming. Just down the road, Glenvar hosts Rural Retreat.

So what kind of weather should you expect? We asked weather journalist Kevin Myatt and here's what he tells us:

There is a small chance of showers with an approaching front. Any rain that does occur will be brief, and most places won't see any. Beyond that, looks like a good football evening, with temperatures mostly in the 60s. Could be a little breezy to start the evening, but that will die down. Saturday looks sunny with highs in the 70s.

As always, if you're going to either game, you can share photos at news@sosalem.com.

For more weather news, see Kevin's Weather Journal blog.

Tonight's football forecast

Both Salem and Glenvar are on the road tonight. Salem won't go far, just up Peters Creek Road to Northside. Glenvar travels up U.S. 220 to Covington.

Either way, weather journalist Kevin Myatt issues this advisory:

"Take your rain gear tonight. It might not be a constant rain, but there's a pretty good chance you'll see some. And it looks even soggier for the Tech-Miami game on Saturday. Who does that favor?"

For more weather news, see Kevin's Weather Journal blog.

And if you have photos from any of the games this weekend -- whether the high school games or any rec games that take to a soggy field -- you can share photos at news@sosalem.com.

Tonight's football forecast

Salem has its home opener tonight against William Byrd. Glenvar travels way down to Grayson County. Things look pretty drab and dreary out right now, so we asked weather journalist Kevin Myatt what he saw happening tonight. Here's Kevin's take on things:

We are in a period of several drab days -- cloudy, mild, some drizzle and fog each day through at least Monday. Temperatures tonight will be pleasant, likely in the mid 60s to low 70s. Be prepared for a passing shower, but there probably won't be enough rain for the games to get muddy.

For more weather news, see Kevin's Weather Journal blog.

And, as always, if you're headed to a game -- whether it's a high school game or rec league -- you can share photos at news@sosalem.com.

And check back this weekend -- we'll have both photos and video from the Salem game!

Weather alert for Thursday's Salem Red Sox game

The Salem Red Sox are scheduled to play Game 3 of the Carolina League Championship Series at home on Thursday but . . . weather journalist Kevin Myatt warns there's the potential for heavy rain on Thursday.

If conditions develop right (or wrong, depending on your point of view), Kevin says we could get "gully-washer downpours."

Kevin has more details on the forecast on his Weather Journal blog.

(As you've likely heard, the Lynchburg Hillcats won Monday's opener and now have a 1-0 lead. Game 2 is tonight in Lynchburg. It's a best-three-of-five series, so Salem's guaranteed at least one home game. If the series goes longer, Games 4 and 5 would also be in Salem.)

Tonight's football forecast

Salem opens its season tonight at Lord Botetourt. Glenvar opens at James River.

If you're headed to any of the high school football games, here's what weather journalist Kevin Myatt says to expect:

Perfect for early September! Clear and dry, temperatures in the 70s at kickoff, falling into the 60s during the game.
