New Gold's Gym
There have been rumors for awhile about a new Gold’s Gym coming to Roanoke, and now, the official word is out. Gold’s Gym will open a new location in February at Crossroads Mall, inside the former location of New Fitness, a health club that shut down last year.
This will be the second Gold’s in the Roanoke Valley. The other one opened in 2003 in Roanoke County on Electric Road.
One of several owners of the new Gold’s, Eddie Dail, said pre-membership sign-ups for this new facility will begin in about two weeks, inside the former Dollar Duz It store at Crossroads, which you can see in this picture.
But the entrance to the new gym will be in the back of Crossroads.
Aside from some of the regular health club features, the new Gold’s will have adult and children’s pools and a cardio theater. That’s a large movie screen, situated in front of bikes and other exercise machines.
Putting movies and exercise together is an unusual combination. I question whether watching movies really will put people in an exercising mood.

I'm pretty excited. The BAC has old, poorly maintained equipment, and is basically a 'pretty' gym with an overbearing sense of family.
Will be nice to have a nice meathead gym on this side of town.

Rich,
Sounds like you are in favor of a new Gold's here. Have you been to the Southwest Roanoke County Gold's?
Also, what do you mean by a meathead gym?

Yes. I belonged there for 3 years when I lived off Grandin. Now, the BAC is a few miles from me, so I swtiched to there.
Meathead gyms are geared towards folks who like to lift without being looked at like some kinda of freak...grunting, heavy weights. The folks who are there to work out, not hook up.

I enjoyed reading your article in the Times yesterday. Makes me wish I wasn't locked into a BAC contract for another 18 months.

The Gold's back in Fredericksburg, VA sounds like the one that will open here soon. Wish I could also switch over to being a member at the new Gold's (as I too have a contract w/ another local gym. It (Gold's) will not be a meathead gym. The trend is toward a family type gym, but there is plenty of space and equipment for everyone at the new Gold's. The old stereo typical meathead gyms, or where the guys go to grunt their way through a workout are pretty much disappearing. But, if you switch to the new Gold's, I am sure that you won't be very disappointed.

right now, the entire front entrance of this business is big, open windows
so people can stare at you from outside while youre exercising
how creepy is that??

That's only beause the current location is temporary Mo. I just go to the back couple rows of machines. it's not so bad.
The new gym will rock.

I am really excited about the new golds, i have been a member at the other location for over a year, this one will dominate that. with pools basketball courts and the cinema cardio, it will def. be the premier gym in the noke.
