Fast Freddy's update

I finally have some news about Fast Freddy's in Salem. This restaurant on West Main Street has been closed for more than several weeks. A sign posted on the door states that it has shut down because of a family emergency.

Amelia Goldacker, who owns the business with her husband, Gary, told me that Fast Freddy's will reopen, though she did not want to state an exact date.

Goldacker said they have closed the restaurant for a time because her mother moved in with the family from her New York home. The Goldackers live in Roanoke County, and they also own Roanoke Bagel Co., where Amelia Goldacker primarily works.

She said she will let us know when a reopening date is set.

  1. I didn't realize Fast Freddy's and Roanoke Bagel were owned by the same people. I've never particularly liked Fast Freddy's (I don't *not* like it, I've just never found it to be anything special) -- but I love Roanoke Bagel. They're the closest thing to true NY bagels we have in SW Va.

  2. Thanks for the update. It is particularly interesting, since the phone number for Fast Freddy's is no longer in service.....

  3. Because your mother moved in? C'mon now, or mabe because you have the worst tasting food I have eaten in my life and mabe buisness is going downhill? Way downhill? I'm new to this area but trust me, Salem is much better off without ya!

  4. Sorry some of you don’t like Fast Freddy’s. There are many of us who do; a lot. For “fast food” it is great and they have a very diverse menu. Something doesn’t add up though. Close up the place (and it looks like the bagel shop is closed too) just because Mom moved in? Disconnect the number? I think there is more to this than we have been told. Danny, the original owner, please come back.

  5. I really like Fast Freddy's! The food is consistently good, and as Bill P said, the menu has a great variety! They have entrees that are unlike any other "fast food" places that I'm aware of, and they are good! I'm with Bill P again again in thinking that it was best when the orig. owner was there. I believe that they are on the third owner right now. And as others stated above, the Mother moving in is kind of a lame excuse! It will be interesting to see what happens.

  6. This doesn't sound good for FF. Yea the excuse is lame. If it's her health then I can see the reason. Disconnecting the phone sounds like they are not reopening, at least soon. When did they last change owners? I haven't eaten there in a few years, about three I would say. I know I'm no help to them staying open. I always ate there when the classic cars were there on Saturdays.

  7. Both FF's and Roanoke Bagel went downhill when they were sold so I'm not surprised.
