Latest on Starbucks
In case you missed this news, Starbucks plans to close 200 U.S. stores and 100 locations internationally this year. The coffee retailer also will lay off at least 6,700 workers.
There's no word yet on which Starbucks locations will close and whether they will include stores in the Roanoke and New River valleys.

the one on 220 does no business whatsoever. The one on Colonial (the one i frequent) and the one at Valley View seem to do pretty well.

The economic downturn will put the squeeze on a number of merchants who trade in luxury type items that can easily be foregone.

I drive by several places I could buy expensive coffee from each day, and I never bother stopping. I can't see spending $3-4 on one cup of coffee or a specialty drink when that will buy me a half pound of specialty blended coffee from the grocery store, and yield several pots of coffee and last me about 2 weeks. The only time we eat out now is if we know the portions are good and the price is reasonable. That way we can usually get 2 meals out of what we buy: one at the restaurant and one the next day from the leftovers.

The Starbucks at University Mall in Blacksburg as well as the location at Kent Square, Downtown across from
The Main Street Inn are both busy every time I go in there. Lots of students, faculty and tourists stopping in.
Likewise, the location inside Barnes & Noble in Christiansburg seems to do well.
