Rocky Mount barbecue restaurant is closed

I've recently learned that a popular barbecue joint in Rocky Mount has shut its doors.

It's Olde Virginia Barbecue, located at Meadow View Avenue. Scott Martin, who is director of commerce and leisure services for Franklin County, told me today that the restaurant closed about three weeks ago. He wasn't sure of the exact reasons for the closing.

"We were surprised," Martin said.

According to past newspaper stories, Tina and Scott Steph owned the restaurant in 2007. I'm not sure if they were the most recent owners of the business. I have not yet been about to reach the Stephs or someone else for further information.

I'll keep you updated as I find out more details.

  1. I was sad to see this place close down.

I hadn't been a regular patron as the service staff was very unpredictable. There were sometimes I could walk in and have a quick, efficient server and other times, I was held hostage at my table for an hour and a half. The food was always great though.

Whenever eating there, I held out hope that their front of the house would get it together more regularly.

  2. Speaking of closing, Circuit City put a sign up yesterday saying they only have 10 days left. I talked to someone inside who said they were just told yesterday as they came in that they had 10 days left. They marked cameras and Plasma tvs to 40% off and LCD tvs are still 30% off. A lot of the other items are 60% to 70% off. There are some good deals to be had and some not so good. No word on if they will mark things down again as the 10 days comes to a close or just move the merchandise to another store to sell.

  3. Speaking of circuit city I saw in the news were they were selling broken tvs and the only way to get out of it is to do a chargeback on your card. They only reason you dontknow is because the liquadators are not allowing you to look in the box before you leave and are holding to that all sales are final..

  4. Shirley,
I also heard about the broken televisions at Circuit City stores. But I didn't know that people could charge back the items on their credit cards. I'll check into that. Thanks for the info.

  5. Our church frequently held get-togethers at OVBBQ, and they were fine; however, their Sunday brunch after church services were over, was very unsatisfactory and they charged for every trip through the buffet, something that was not made apparent up front.
