Easter spending
Retailers are rolling out the yellow, orange and pink spring attire. Are you buying it?
The latest news from the National Retail Federation says that people are scaling back on new spring apparel purchases tied to the Easter holiday this year. According to a survey by the NRF, Americans will spend an average of $19.44 per person on Easter-related spring clothing, which is down from $23.82 last year.
Easter falls three weeks later this year, but warmer temperatures still may not entice clothing splurges.
Also, as you might expect, total Easter spending will be less this year. Consumers will spend an average of $116.59 on Easter candy, gifts, food and decorations, a decrease from $135.03 last year, reports the NRF.
Total Easter spending will be $12.73 billion.

I just purchased some new spring clothing for myself yesterday. I shopped at Macy's, but it was difficult finding just a few spring tops.... EVERY top I tried on was a baby doll cut and looked like maternity wear. No wonder retailers are having a hard time selling anything. What 40 or 50 year old woman wants to walk around in tops that make her look pregnant? I think they need to hire buyers that will stock the stores with styles that we the purchasers want instead of what the manufacturers are shoving down their throats. The bright pink and yellow prints were beautiful. BUT the styles were certainly not what I was looking for.

I've had some of the same problems as Di but instead of clothes it was house decorating items. I recently redecorated my daughter's room and had the hardest time finding a decent comforter locally. I looked at like 100 and found only 1 that I liked. I guess I'm lucky I found the one.
Since we just redid her room, we'll be spending less on her Easter basket. I took a lot to Goodwill and now I'm being cautious as to what else I buy her. I don't want to end up with a room full of unused toys. She really does better with one or two nice toys rather than a full basked of cheap ones.

I have the same problem as Di, finding clothes I like that are suitable. I'm 51, too old for clothes made for the 20 somethings, and too young for old lady clothes.

Di,
I've heard others complain about the baby doll cut for shirts as well. I thought that trend may go away this year, but it appears that it's sticking around.
