Red Clay opens

Red Clay restaurant opened its doors today in downtown Roanoke.

This Campbell Avenue eatery is a spin-off of one that already exists in Rocky Mount. Here's my blog post from last month about the restaurant, which moved into the former spot of The Mix.

For now, the Roanoke Red Clay only is open for lunch Monday through Thursday and lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday.

Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Steve Mullins, one of the owners, said the menu will be the same as the one at the Rocky Mount eatery for now, though later it will be adjusted with some new items. Click here for the menu.

Also, jazz and blues entertainment already is lined up for this Friday and Saturday evening at the Roanoke Red Clay.

Yes, Steve Mullins leases commercial real estate property locally.

  4. UGHHHH!! I HATE a website that that has music on the main screen! When will people that make websites learn this is very annoying. I went there to see their menu not to hear music.

  5. Bar food with an appalling wine list. An Applebee's emulator...Yup, Red Clay should do just fine.

  6. I think the menu looks really good- definitely a step above Applebees. I'm looking forward to trying it.

I keep my computer's volume muted so I don't have to deal with loud websites startling me or bothering my coworkers.

  7. Jenny, do you know if Red Clay plans to expand its hours and serve dinner on weeknights?

    Comment by Suzanne — April 1, 2009 @ 12:06 am

  8. Suzanne,
Yes, Red Clay eventually will serve dinner on Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well, though Steve Mullins, one of the owners, did not know when that would start.

  9. There is an option for turning the music off on the home page. Also, the menu is quite extensive and everything is home made...Applebees couldn't possibly keep up with the quality. Try it before you decide. You will not be disappointed.

  10. We went there for lunch today and were very pleased. They have a great lunch menu with very reasonable prices. The food was tasty, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. I definitely plan to go back. The only somewhat complaint was that the catfish could have used a little more spice.
