More on Kroger's new Salem fuel center

I learned a few more details about Kroger's new fuel center slated for Salem, adjacent to the grocer's store at Spartan Square on Main Street.

This gasoline station will have 10 pumps, including diesel fuel.

Construction of the new center should start this week or early in May, said Carl York, a Kroger spokesman. It could be several months until it opens, though York said he wasn't ready to name a specific date.

This new Salem fuel center will be Kroger's seventh in the Roanoke Valley. In January, the grocer opened its sixth fuel center near Towers Shopping Center in Roanoke.

  1. I am kind of curious as to where in the parking lot these gas pumps are going to be. There isn't a lot of room out there and on Saturdays the lot is pretty crowded.

  2. When is Salem going to get some decent dept. stores? Since Heironimus went out, we have to travel to Valley View!

  3. We had Heironimus. We had Goody's. We had A & N. Apparently we did not patronize these establishments often enough to keep them in Salem. We apparently buy our gas and mattresses in Salem as attested to by the vast selection of businesses to do so. I reckon' WalMart may as well get on the bandwagon and add gas to their product line. Talk about one stop shopping, WalMart would be all we need if they had gas.

  4. It's utterly stupid that a city as large as Salem is, that we don't a decent dept. store! When is a good seafood restaurant going to come into Salem? Gets boring to have to drive 15 miles to Red Lobster...

  5. good seafood in a land-locked community just isn't going to happen, as evidenced by your use of "red lobster" as an example.

  6. #3- all of those stores went bankrupt and closed everywhere, not just Salem.

  7. When are the Krogers in Salem going to remodel. They looked and smell like trash!! I would rather travel to Tanglewood then shop at any of the Salem Krogers!! Come on Salem make your krogers remodel!! Spend money redoing the store not the parking lot!!!

  8. Salem is just so out of touch! As large as it is, we could certaintly support some dept. stores. How about putting Kohl's where Ukrops is?????????

  9. Please!! Put a good name brand store like Kohl's somewhere in Roanoke, it's ridiculous that we have to go to Lynchburg to one.

  10. Have any of you REALLY looked at a Kohl's, we are better off without one, not very good merchandise.

  11. With all the support a new chain like Ukrops built in Roanoke, do any of you honestly think ANY large chain like Kohls or Trader Joe's or Joe Smoe's, is actually going to come into this valley? Wake up!!

  12. Have you ever shopped at a Kohls? What do mean not good quality. Just as good if not better than KMart and Walmart. Yes we do need a Kohls.

    Comment by Diana — October 28, 2009 @ 8:05 am

  13. flea market is better than kmart or walmart, the city is not equipped for nicer retailers, and kohls sees that even though they are not a quality merchandise retailer, people shop there for a few months, destroy it and then no one wants to go in there, only Target has seemed to escape this trend

    Comment by Derrick — October 28, 2009 @ 12:24 pm

  14. and yes I have been in a Kohls, will not be back
