Top coupons

Are you a paper coupon clipper or an electronic coupon clipper? There's a difference in clipping methods these days. Coupons.com reports that more than 40 million people print online coupons, which is a 20 percent increase from last year. This jump is driven largely by the economic slowdown, reports this free coupon Web site.

In March, there were more online coupons printed for cereal than for any other product, based on Coupons.com users.

Here are the top 10 products for which consumers printed coupons in March. How do these match up with the grocery and other items that you're trying to save money on each month?

1. Ready to eat cereal

2. Baby products

3. Baking ingredients

4. Nutritional/diet items

5. Yogurt

6. Entertainment

7. Dessert items

8. Laundry supplies

9. Carbonated soft drinks

10. Personal care items

  1. I do both. I cut out the coupons for the products I use the most, and also watch the grocery ads. If something is on sale and I have a coupon-EUREKA!!

  2. I don't clip coupons but thought about starting. I really don't have any idea what's the best way to go about it. So if anyone could tell me of coupon websites that are good and how double coupons work at area grocery stores that could maybe get me started in the right direction.

  4. I also clip coupons for the items I use the most and have them organized by category (i.e. canned, dry goods, meats, frozen, baby stuff). I plan my shopping list by what's on sale and my coupons. I can usually save at least 30% on my grocery bill with this method.
I use a website to help with my list, that being The Grocery Game. It breaks down what's on sale by store (for our area you can choose from Food Lion and Kroger) and lets you know if there's a coupon for that item, the final price and percent off after using your coupon.
I also check the price per unit v. the total price on items, that is how much the cost per ounce of one brand or size of a product is compared to another brand or size. I've done this with diapers, where the big box is on sale, but the cost per diaper is cheaper to buy two smaller packages and use my coupons. For baby items, I've also signed up on Gerber's, Luvs' and Pampers' websites to get coupons. Gerber usually sends out coupons monthly.
In the Dark, I think the only store in our area to offer double coupons is Kroger, and they offer them up to $0.50 (i.e. a $0.50 coupon is doubled to $1 off). I subscribe to the Sunday paper and get the majority of my coupons from there and Kroger also sends coupons based on things you buy (as tracked by your Kroger card).

  5. In The Dark, Kroger's will double the coupon value of any coupon up to a 50 cent value; 50 cents off will be $1.00 off of whatever item the coupon is for. I get coupons from Coupons.com, Lean Cuisine.com, there's thegrocerygame.com, etc. Try Googling grocery coupons for lots of websites.

  6. Kathy- take the grocery ads (or any ads) to Walmart, they price match and you will only have to go to one store. Kroger doubles coupons up to 50 cents but Walmart is so much cheaper you are still beter off going there.
(Okay Walmart haters start your engines....)
