The Hut is Pizza Hut

Is Pizza Hut having an identity crisis? The large pizza chain is going by "The Hut" in some of its marketing as it redefines itself as a restaurant that serves a mix of foods, from pasta to wings.

But pizza fans can rest assured. Pizza Hut isn't changing its name, according to this article in Advertising Age.

Still, expect to see some of the chain's eateries carrying signs for both "Pizza Hut" and "The Hut," along with a new logo.

  1. That sounds like what UPS did when it started refering to itself as 'Brown' in their campaigns.

  2. In a related story, Taco Bell may become "The Bell."

  3. That's right. Or when Kentucky Fried Chicken decided to go with 'KFC' - it's a branding program.

I've heard that Pizza Hut is trying to appeal to the generation of Twitter users and text messengers. By shortening to "The Hut" it'd be easier for young folks to identify this company as a 'hip' and 'cool' place to go to hangout... of course, garnering the $$$ of a spend-thrifty consumer.

  5. oh and another thing since the mention of twitter... here is their latest promo:

The new Pizza Hut social media intern has her first assignment, and it's to give out codes for free stuffed pizza rolls to the company's followers on Twitter and Facebook.

  6. Still won't matter to me. Their pizza is still going to be vastly overpriced and not very good, certainly for the money. If I'm going to have to shell out $15 for a mediocre pepperoni pizza, I'm going to go to Chuck E Cheese so I can play some Skee Ball too.
