Rancho Viejo in Salem

Thanks to a tip from blog reader, Dennis, the mystery of what's coming to the former Fast Freddy's restaurant site in Salem appears to have been solved.

"Coming Soon, Rancho Viejo Mex Grill" has been added to the tall sign at this former restaurant location at the corner of West Main and Fourth streets.

This building has been for lease. Fast Freddy's closed there last year. Check out my blog post from last week for those details.

I don't know if this restaurant is owned by the same person who has four Rancho Viejo Mexican Grill & Cantina restaurants in the Roanoke Valley. I tried to contact the owner of these eateries today, but I couldn't reach him.

I'll let you know when I find out more details about this Mexican restaurant's new Salem location.

  1. I also heard that LaFinca (downtown) was opening in the former Chinese restaurant/former 460 Roadhouse restaurant at Market Square on 460, near El Rodeo.

  2. Really? Do we honestly need another Mexican restaurant. How about something different.

  3. We've been to two of the other Rancho Viejo's, the one in Vinton, and the one on 419 near T'wood. We really like the one in Vinton, had really good food there. We'll eat at the one in Salem if they do actually open there, but they will be hard pressed to get me away from Alajandro's very often!

  4. Someone NEEDS to open a Thai restaurant or Vietnamese restaurant in Salem I think.

  5. I had Thai food once. My tongue was numb for two days. Seriously. Spicy stuff.

  6. Thanks for the LaFinca tip, Adowntownbusiness. Are you hearing that the restaurant is relocating or opening a second location?

  7. As a downtown resident, I'll stick with Alejandro's when I want Mexican. I went to LaFinca for lunch several months ago, just because I was in that area and it was horrible. I won't be back.

  8. Agreed on Alejandros. The place has the best mexican food! I don't know how they are doing out at Market Square North but their downtown location is busy. They definately need more space downtown!
